Will be in the alps/pyranees on a road trip from early season till end of August and then and would like to take in some events. Not too bothered by the competitive stuff like the Mega or Mountain of Hell, more the chilled (get loads of riding in) type of events. Not averse to travelling around.
Any other recommendations?

PdS is great fun, however with the trails you could easily do it yourself on any other day, depends if you want the crowds, banter and experience. I would do it once just for the fun.

Biking only or hill walking too ? The mountain marathon at Chamonix is superb. Ordinary folk do the 1/2 and walk it.
Only prob is it tends to be the same weekend as the PPdS.
