Does anyone know of any stockists or makes of padded undershorts that are more like padded boxers or undies? Obviously to have underpants worn underneath. I'm not a heathen.
The reason is that I perspire heavily when out riding (it absolutely pisses off of me in fact). I rode Lockerbrook and a Cut Gate out and back yesterday in the Peaks with no padded shorts under my baggies and found the 'up trouser leg ventilation' most welcome. However, the saddle soreness was another thing altogether.
I was wondering if the perfect compromise was 'out there', or would it just look too much like a nappy to appeal to anyone?
Please don't laugh (too much).
They have to be tight or they don't work. Maybe look for some mesh panelled ones. No need for undies either, that'll make everything worse
I find they bunch up around your inner thighs.
Can I open up the worms again by saying ditch the baggies if its really hot.

Why would you wear undies under padded shorts????
The best 'undies' style padded shorts ive used are Rapha, they have mesh sides, a quality pad and are fine merino wool so dont get hot. Normal lycra undershorts (that come with many baggy cycle shorts) are ok but just not as comfy or cool.
Try putting a wee bit of towel tucked into the back of your shorts. That'll collect the sweat from your back that otherwise runs into your bum-crack. Also consider not wearing a rucksack as that will lead to even more sweat
Not usre if it's what you're after but Craft do a "ProCool Bike Boxer" which is short in the leg and with a minimal pad, but it's close fitting not baggy boxer fit
Wearing boxers underneath tightish fitting shorts wont help with chafing if you sweat lots.
the liners that come with troy lee designs Ace shorts are great (when worn sans undercrackers), not sure if you can get them separately though
My brother used to have some Endura ones. Until he slid down a slope on his arse and they went right through. Not sure if they still do them.
boxers or trunks?
will a couple of tennis balls and a bratwurst solve your particular problem?
and having been through this thread previously, i can sympathise, lycra/undershorts/paddedliners do not offer enough support, gunties also required.
And if they're too short I would imagine they'd 'ride up' and get very uncomfortable. When out on family rides etc I much prefer to go commando under jeans etc than wear a pair of boxers, even tight ones.
Wearing pants is probably not helping you - if they're cotton they won't wick so well (plus seams etc are in the wrong places). As aboce, try to find some mesh ones. I've got a pair of old Sugoi Gustav shorts, the liner that came with them is almost see through.
Wearing your normal bills underneath a liner? That sounds like about the most horribly uncomfortable thing in the world!
Fox do a mesh, padded undershort which is brilliant in the summer. Paired with Sombrio shorts with the vents up the inside of the legs, its cool man-vegetable heaven 😀
I've had a look for the fox liners and they don't seem to come separately from the shorts though
How about Lusso

They are separate on mine.
The coolest short-liners I've found are the Specialized ones as they are mostly mesh.
Oh - and what everyone else said about not wearing anything underneath. No wonder you are getting chafing.
How about Ground Effect's Underdogs? They're basically mesh shorts with a pad. I have two pairs that I use with the Juggernaut outers they're designed for and can't fault them. I've never used them with other shorts but apart from the little popper that you use to attach them with I can't imagine any problems.

Mavic's Stratos liner short, seamless mesh leg construction and a decent pad. Not cheap, but very good especially with the matching baggies - again not cheap, but light and have some venting.
Padded cycling shorts are designed to be worn without underwear, most of which is made of cotton and has seams in all the wrong places.
As an alternative, Rohan - no less - do a sort of commuting pad that you can wear under nornal trunks or boxers with non-slip urethane stuff to keep it mostly in place. Not the best pad ever and it doesn't like being used when stood up but maybe an option if you're determined to keep wearing your undercrackers...

Sorry – I should have been more clear in my OP.
I meant ‘trunks’ as opposed to boxers – which would be patently silly.
I already wear sort of lycra/stretchy ‘trunk’ style undercrackers to ride in. I’ve thought about swimming trunks as well as I believe this in an old army trick for long marches etc in hot conditions.
Swimming trunks?? They are the sweatiest things ever!
Wiggle do DHB ones, the sizings way off though so need to go a size up at least.
If you really want to ride in trunks maybe get some tri shorts.
I've got some cotton Endura ones bought (for me) from Evans a year or two again. they're a 'trunk' (underwear not swimming) fit. They're OK for commuting/pulling but no good for long rides add there passing is fairly minimal and cotton doesn't dry as quickly as lycra.
you wear trunks under your bibbies?
ditch the trunks, ditch the baggies, get a good pair of lightweight bibbies (i swear by castelli) and get some good cream.
The Endura clickfast liners are very underwear-like, certainly designed to be worn under baggy shorts.
And WhyTF are you wearing stuff under padded shorts? No wonder you're uncomfortable. Do you wear pants under your trunks when you go swimming?!
