Hey all!

I'm planning an overnight bike adventure. Ride for a day, set up camp somewhere nice in the mountains then carry on the next day. I don't want many if any roads. Looking for alternatives to the Lake District, possibly somewhere a bit more south. Looking in the range from Snowdonia down to Dartmoor zone. Based in Bath so don't want to much of a road trip to get there 4hrs max kinda thing.

Anyone done any nice trips they can recommend?

Cheers

The first thing I would think of is shooting down the motorway to either the Quantocks, Dartmoor or Exmoor.

It's worth asking on the Bearbones forums - there's a few on there based in Bath/Bristol/the SW.

If you've not done an overnighter before it's worth trying things out close to home then if you get something wrong (you will!) it's easy enough to head back and get sorted out.

Basic rules*: arrive late; leave early; leave no trace, i.e. no fires. Chose your bivy spot where you can't see lights from houses and you are unlikely to be spotted. Technically wild camping isn't allowed in England but in practice so long as you aren't a d*ck about it there shouldn't be a problem.

*rules is perhaps too strong a word, guidelines to avoid messing things up for others doesn't trip off the tongue/keyboard in the same way.

Cheers, I've done wild camping before but just not on the bike. Had a brochure from Dartmoor NP saying they encourage 'sensible' wild camping so wondered about that but not sure what the trails are like. Hadn't considered the South Downs but will take a look.

So, I’m back at this. Looking like a long loop in Snowdonia or Lakes. Decided I wanted mountains. Would do Scotland but maybe on next trip, just a bit to far. Has anyone ridden west from Great Langdale? I looked on ViewRanger and no ones put anything up that way. Just wondered if anyone had been on any trails up that way and what they were like in ridability rocky/flow/tech descend type of thing.

Cheers

Plenty of the route to cherry pick. The stuff round minehead is the best.
