[#9833977]

After too many years on the road I've returned to glorious mud and treated myself to a bike which I can in no way justify with my lack of talent, but still..... it's a beasty!

Bird 145

2 days at BPW booked for the start of next month and can't wait.

The Sharpie is a tempter!  I may have gone a bit overboard with the monochrome look.

I do like the bike though, just not the furniture.

I think the red armchair clashes a little with the cushions.

Is it black and white, as per saddle and cs protector OR black and red as per bottle cage and o rings? Honestly how you people can get dressed in the morning without help scares me! 🙂

Does that rug shift much or have you installed some sort of anti slip tape? It can be an issue for some.

Nice bike.

v666ern, I would have been very surprised if there had been any comments not decor or colour related.

This weekend will just be locally in Cheshire, then next weekend off to the Peaks where it should be more in its natural habitat.

Is it a 145 or 145LT? Looks like a great spec with decent wheels and GX Eagle.

Looks like you have Pikes which I don’t have any experience of - I’ve got Yaris on my 145 which I’m planning to upgrade to the charger damper so they’ll be Lyriks.

Your bike will be so much fun at BPW! Enjoy.

Cheers Joe.  It's the 145, which really I already struggle to justify. The LT would be way too much travel for 99% of my riding.

I went a bit bonkers on the spec. I'm a die hard Shimano fan but everything I read steered me away from their latest stuff.

The Pikes are the RC version. I've yet to bounce them outside (am I being daft praying for a non-rainy first ride?).

The Bikeyoke 185 dropper was the pricey cherry on the cake but the lever feels lovely and I've seen too many problems with Reverbs to get one again. Whether or not I need 185 remains to be seen but I'm a lanky git and I thought in for a penny, in for a pound.

Just to add, the chaps at Bird were brilliant despite my many calls as I pondered specs, and make a good brew if you collect your bike.

You’ll find tubeless it’ll be ok in the wet weather - just make sure you don’t run too much pressure in the tyres. Generally I’ve been running around 25 psi which doesn’t burp / wobble around but feels like it’s on the safe side of pressures to avoid rim dents. I’m sure some people run them nearer 20psi.

Ive found if you aren’t concentrating the front wheel can wipe out from underneath you on mine - it’s very much a keep your weight forward bike and really work the front end into corners and then it’s really fast. You soon get the hang of it and talk a lot of fun!

Ive ordered the LT linkage for mine out of curiosity to see what it’ll be like. It’s quite a quick job to swap it out so figure if 160 is too much for most of my riding that I can always pop in the lt linkage for uplift days.

Good work on the dropper - I’ve got 125mm but think I could squeeze in a 150 just about. The brand x ascend 150 wasn’t out at the time though.

I did think about moving those but they are for nose use only.  My special sock however, is just out of frame.

I like that bike. I would cut the steerer tube down though as that is a lot above the bars ready to cause you a mischief if you get it wrong.
