It looks like Ive ordered the wrong rear derailleur for my Trance build. Heres what I've got, any chance it'll work or have I got to order a longer cage?
24/38 SLX chainrings
11-36 SLX Cassette
SLX RD-M675 GS Shadow Plus rear derailleur (Max. Sproket 36T, Min sprocket 11T, Front Diff 22T, total capacity 35T)
My total capacity is 39T so is it a definate no go and order the longer cage derailleur?
From my understanding you will need a long cage mech for a 36 tooth rear.
I'm sure they'll let you send it back/exchange it.
depends how good you are at avoiding big:big and little:little really, although those clutch thingies might obviate the main benefit of a shorter cage, as they supposedly don't slap anyway
get in touch with seller & hopefully they'll swap it even if you're outside the 7 days
I prefer med cage mechs even when running big tooth differences as I know not to go into big ring/bottom sprocket!
big:big won't be a problem as the mech can handle 36t rear ring. Only your chain length will affect this. The mech's "capacity" is it's ability to pick up slack. With your set up, you wouldn't be able to use 24/13 or 24/11.
Either replace the mech, change the 38t for a 34t or don't use those two gears.
Bugger though so! I bought it from one of the German shops so have just emailed them from my work account as I work for a German company....well you never know it may help 🙂
I'm running 26/38 front 11/36 rear on an xt medium shadow plus with a chain device, all works fine.
I think I've/we've decided that Ive got the wrong mech but I'm hoping I may get away with it 🙂 What do you think?

yup shadow+, month old but 1 ride old. Will check it over tomorrow but am 99% certain it "as new2
