My 2008 Orange 5 one has got a better spec due upgrades etc than the current 5 Pro, however I do have at 9mm bolt through DT Swiss QR, rather than the current 15mm/20mm offering. would the slacker head angle, tapered head tube, stiffer fork etc make a real difference on xc natural Scottish trails and the odd Trailcentre trip ?
Not really thinking about changing, but curious nonetheless !
I have considered borrowing Alpine Bikes demo new one, but would hate to find it significantly 'better'
I personally think the slacker version has lost that 'something', which made the 5 special (in my eyes, at least). I had a 2006 version which was a far nicer and fun to ride around general woodsy, singletrack etc. trails. I bought a 2011 thinking it would be the DB's, but it was just boring. Perhaps the ST4 is now more akin to the old 5, whereas the new one has become more 'gnaar'.
