So I have a Nukeproof Scout frame lying around - MBR review gave it an 8 out of 10 but cited a high bottom bracket (322mm) as the reason it didn't get a 9. Although apparently this meant the bike was more playful than some of the others in the test group.

If I wanted to rectify this, I could either build a bike with:

A) 130mm forks, 27.5 inches wheels and a 1 degree angleset. This would knock the BB down by about 7.5mm and put the BB height in line with a Stanton.

B) Run 26 inch wheels and keep a 150mm fork on the front. Or maybe even use 130mm forks and an angleset as well to really drop some height off the BB.

Ideas? I like the look of the frame so I want to keep it really. Should I not worry? There's only 7mm difference between this and a Stanton, although the White 901 is about 20mm lower.

Make your own mind up once you've tried it.

Yeah, some of the BB height has got to be in the tyres as well. As the 901 comes with considerably smaller tyres.

I think MBR mostly talk shit, but I am undecided on how to build this bike. So, someone convince me! Keep it relatively standard, shorter forks or go old school with 26 inch wheels?

Maybe playful is good anyway, I didn't buy it to fly down technical sections at DH speeds.

they may have been talking about BB drop in relation to the axles as much as height above the ground?

The only way to change that significantly will be to play with rear shock length and stroke, I'd imagine?

Pretty tough to do that on a hardtail ๐Ÿ™‚

It's a hardtail, so you cannot do that. Although I believe the drop does become greater (according to the online geo calculators) when you put a shorter fork on - at least in comparison to the rear axle.

I wonder how much of the "perched on top" feeling that they described comes from the fact that it's a hardtail with a 150mm fork. To me, vagueness comes when the forks to long for the frame.

It claims to have a 35mm BB drop with 150mm forks so sagged it'll be around 310mm. That isn't high, it's just that the Whyte has a very low BB. Try to ride natural woodland trails fast, with lots of roots and foliage about, and a very low BB can become annoying if not downright dangerous, unless where you ride is so steep that you never need to pedal out of corners. If it's all trail centres where there aren't the pedal catching nasties or winch and plummet natural stuff then v low BB heights are good.

What size frame do you have?
Do you know the weight?

I demoed a full build scout and loved it. Felt really at home on it.
You said that the geo numbers on the nukeproof site where off in another post. Are they right now?
Thanks.
