Hi,

Just want an opinion on this route since the Rushup Edge resurfacing:

Thanks

Rushup changes have no real bearing on it, end of the day it's just a bit with some rocks chucked down it that weren't there before, it's still a classic peaks route. Go ride it it'll be a great day out and make your own mind up!

If you don't know the route then you're none the wiser on what what was there previously anyway, everything else on that route is still very much worth doing.

+1 For what nickdavies says, ive done that route many times before 'rushupgate' and i've done it since, its a classic route and the rocks on rushup edge don't really affect anything

Yes its a classic ride. I do a slightly different version, from Mam Tor I cut down to the Oxlow House / Limestone Way to ride Cavedale into Castleton then climb the land slipped road back to Mam Tor. Also I cut from Coldwell Clough to point 8 on the map so not going into Hayfield. I start from Eadale.

Still a good route. No mater the amount of work that has been done to try and sanitise the trails it only takes two or three winters to put them back to the state they were in. Nature has a way of sorting things out

if you do it the way that goes down jacobs, its a long old push up the resurfaced section from cold well clough? to jacobs,

Agree, given the choice i'll go up Jacobs rather than down it normally. Mostly because the Jacobs descent is usually littered with people and I always fall off when i'me being watched! 😆

Up Jacobs, down the top half of Oaken Clough, up past the reservoir and over the top to Hollingsworth Clough is one of my favourite peaks sections, just not managed to find anything yet to link up out of Hollingsworth yet.

Going to head up this weekend and see if linking it up with the pennine bridleway works.

I've done this a few times, it's a classic!
I have a suggestion for a great add-on mini loop:
As you get to the bridleway junction on Middle Moor, don't head straight down into Hayfield. Take the 'right turn' bridleway towards the A624, it's a nice descent ending in a ford/bridge. Then, head up the A624 (sorry, it's a bit of tarmac bashing but you can probably chase a few roadies up the hill!) to the first left turn at the top of the hill signposted to Charlesworth (Monk's Road). Go along for a bit until you see the left turn to take the Pennine Bridleway towards Birch Vale. This is a great route that starts steady and then ends in a nice plummet into Birch Vale.
A nicer detour, that ends right next to a cycle-friendly café (assuming it's still there and open!). Then head to Hayfield and pick up the original route again.

EDIT: I took too long to write the post, looks like you're already considering the Pennine Bridleway!

^ Thanks, that was exactly the route I was thinking so good to hear it's decent before slogging up it.. 😉

Bloody brilliant! Bit of everything along it.

This isn't my ride (I wasn't a Strava-ist the last time I did the route) but it shows the section I'm on about.
