Is it just me or are these an absolute bargain at CRC.
I think I glanced at them, but they're not tubeless.

They’re meant to be great tyres (similar to a DHR2 2.4 WT Dual Exo) and I’m 95% certain they go up tubeless.
They're TLR, says so on the packaging, also on tyre TLR logo in a red circle.
After Gwin did that storming winning run the first time he used them they were briefly the most wanted tyre around. But it seems Onza failed to capitalise on that excellent launch...
Definitely tubeless I bought one a couple of weeks ago at £25 should really order another it's very similar to the dhr2

The only thing I'd say is that they aren't the excellent 45/40 durometer compound that are superb in 2.4 Ibex (hr2 copy) guise
So a good front option?

Running mine on the rear so can't help, but seems grippy enough out there

That’s the dual ply, downhill version. This one is just under a kilo in 27.5, just over in 29”.
Folding 27.5, 960g checked. excellent on the rear, good predictable corning, fast rolling, Just over 59mm width on mavic 30mm rim.

the 65/55 rubber is a bit skitey ime, haven't used the aquila but I didn't like my ibexes in the same compound much.
On One have 27,5 Vittoria Gatos for £8. Designed for wet/muddy/rooty trails - i.e. a winter tyre.
Since the weather has got bad I've put one on the back of my mullet bike, with a 29"/2.6" WTB trail Boss on the front- should hopefully work well!

I'll try on the front, will end up on the rear of no good, it's wet & slidey enough out that the local woods will let me know pretty quick what they are about

Not sure who copied who! Both come out of the same factory. I remember buying Ibex tyres when Maxxis were still knocking out the original (shite) DHR.
Well put mine on the front, went up tubeless first time with a few strokes of a track pump
Not as wide as E13 I took off, a bit small for a 2.4 tbh, look like a dhf with taller knobs
Last nights ride was by far wettest & muddiest since last winter 😟
They dug in & cornered very well, holding a line where the dhf on the back didn't
Local mud isn't very claggy so no problems with filling up.
Felt draggy, but that might just have been all the slop out
I did try & test them on off camber roots but it was so crappy I wasn't going that fast anyway , did 20k never lost the front wheel once
Quite pleased so far, but need to ride somewhere steeper & less boggy

did cwmcarn last weekend (its almost all open now, well if you finish down pedalhounds)
Anyway, was seemed ok on trail centre, did get caught out on a few wet rocks & roots, where it washed out a bit, so ended up dropping PSI to 18 which helped a lot, but is lower than Id normally run, that said they didnt feel squirmy at that pressure on a 25mm internal rim

there’s a reason they are £8, they are rubbish. A friend and I bought some and didn’t rate them at all. Might be ok in the dry but not great otherwise. I got them as they appeared to be similar to a Spesh Eskar but they are nowhere near as good.

Hmm. The harder compound Ibex is absolute shit tbf, sounds like the softer rubber was enough to make them decent? I'd steer clear of anything else in the same shoe-leather 55a
I ordered a pair of the Ibex off CRC, 2.4 front 2.2 rear. How will the RC2 65a/55a compounds they use compare to 55a? Harder still? Was thinking for my commuter anyway so will be more durable on the road than soft compand, but hopefully not so slidey on muddy farm tracks as a Minion SS on the front.
I found the Vittoria Gato to be really good? Only put one on the rear, but it's done minging, wet & muddy rides at Innerleithen and in the Pentlands and never slipped once. That was the 2.1" TNT one running tubeless at 25psi on a hardtail.
Onza don't seem to do their softer compound in 29er at all which is a shame
They've been reduced futher to £15.99. I'd been swithering but committed to a pair for my big 160mm full susser to replace the Highroller DH that's been acting as a boat anchor for the last 12 months.
I really rate the Ibex 2.4s I have on my 29er. They're a sturdy tyre, not prone to punctures, and are essentially just a High Roller. I really like them. They've been reduced to £18 each.
I got one of each Ibex, 2.25 + 2.4 650b. Went up tubeless like a dream on Spank Oozy rims, no effort at all. So pretty pleased with them, great grip on wet sloshy trails on an old slag heap. Zero grip on water logged railway sleepers forming a bridge over boggy ground however.
Cheers for the PSA. I have ordered a pair of C3 120tpi Canis. Had them before and rate them as a better, more supple ralph type tyre.
So is 27.5 x 2.4 Ibex better on the front or rear versus the Aquila? They dont seem to have compound choice on CRC for these. And 60tpi gonna be worth them being more robust versus marginal wight difference?

We have used the 29 x 2.4 Ibex and after a few rides decided to take them off as they were lethal on roots, especially wet ones, and not much better in corners. We paid full price for them.
Went back to the Butcher/Butcher combo 2.6f 2.3r and which work well for us as an all round combination.
