That spec, that bike weighed 29lb 3oz on our park tools scales.
Without pedals.

I'm sure you can point to many bikes that weigh less. However, we have:-

Reverb post
29x2.4 trail tyres
760mm bars

Brant

I am for the first time in my whole life, able to access the c2w scheme. It will be my only chance as I have a fixed term contract with 10 months left to run. (I'm self employed the rest of the time)
I was perfectly happy with my "so 2012" 853 steel, 26 inch,140 forked hardtail.
Then you do this.
I feel duty bound to order a parkwood. Just cos I can.
However. It now says they are all sold out.
Is this true?
Yours
Etc
Ps I flogged my summer season frame for £50 on Friday. I'm so behind the times. 🙂

I am investigating this morning why they are saying they are sold out.
If they are actually sold out I am going to the pub.
If it's something else we will fix it.

Really? Apply gaffer tape or respray.

Yup. I do respray, when there's a few chips and dinks. Would be nice to not have to make that effort though. But just a personal preference, most bike stickers just look bad.

Having said that - my inbred has escaped respray so far..

Why the odd headset type, Brant? 44mm and/or 49mm are a lot more common, as opposed to a weird integrated one. Wouldn't some sort of standardisation across your range be a good idea?

any chance while your at it you can get whoever is responsible to use either mm or inches for all your measurements please, pita comparing frame sizes and having to convert. (not arsed about s m l or 16" 18" 20" frame/bike sizes but doing TT, chainstay etc length in mm on one frame and in inches on another is annoying)

Why the odd headset type, Brant?
what is the deal with the headset? No idea what "FSA C40" is, is it one where you just pop bearings into the HT, no cups?
(I'm sure as they are only bearings they'll be much cheaper than traditional headsets) :naive smiley:

This is a totally standard integrated tapered headset. Very standard. Easy to assemble and lots of options out there.

Chainstays used to be measured in inches, but not it's mm.
Same for top tubes.

Tubing is measured in inches for the diameter, but mm for wall thickness.

Right - lack of specs on the site doesn't really explain that - points you to a specific FSA one. Headsets in general a bit of a bugbear for me. The ones in the shed NEVER fit the frame you're thinking of buying.

Yes. And the one I was about to point you to is out of stock.

Give me a moment. Sorry.

CRC only have 2 models, looked like you had a couple didn't check in stock tho. Reducer (for 1.125 fork owners) versions look even rarer, not a lot of options but could be I'm looking in the wrong places

and they all seem pricey compared to conventional models 🙁

Brant - any chance of a "raw" frame only version in the near future? I'll be waiting to hit the "buy" button!

I know you always like to work Sunday evenings Brant, so any chance of pointing us to the type of headset needed?
Frame arriving tomorrow hopefully so would be good to get a HS sorted out soon. Cheers.

I did see that; I thought it might be a miss-print, I haven't seen too many bikes that take a 180mm without an adapter.

Brant

talking frame only, is a headset with a straight steerer crown race available for purchase? Or could I use the crown race from the smoothie mixer?

Any way to use this frame with a Rohloff via a Monkeybone pm rear brake adapter?

Successfully Rohloffed my previous scandal and current Lurcher frames, and ridden them over the Alps, it would be a shame not to do same with the Parkwood for my next trip.

PS another set of bottle cage bosses would be great to use a tool tube\container.

Anybody got other suggestions for headset, the FSA one seems to be out of stock everywhere unless it is stupidly expensive.

Looking at hope but I can't seem to find a bottom option that fits.

Can I buy an integral one and just use the bearings + crown race. The measurements seem to suggest this but that would be too easy no?

Just got round to building mine up, also in a quandary looking for headset, on-one's headset compatibility just says the FSA jobber which is pretty hard to find

Assuming even on one aren't daft enough to design a frame to fit one specific headset, anyone got any idea what might fit? (Without swapping parts from other headsets, sacrificing virgins etc)

I think it is any integrate tapered headset. I've bought an aerozine one. Didn't fit in frame though as someone had been kicking it around and the head tube was oval and dinted.

cane creek do them, there are quite a few on the various big online bike shops. No bargains though.

I built this a few weeks ago: looks great to me and is a replacement for an Inbred 29er (now converted to rigid). Just need my broken leg to mend before I can ride it. Enjoy.

Did you overspray or tape the logo on top of the downtube. Or is is missed off?

Tried to overspray but the graphics started peeling. Tape works very well.

I have a Yelli, the Parkwood figures are very similar except the chain stays are a tad longer. You may or may be bothered by that.

Side by side I'd choose the Yelli because of that, however a new Yelli is 800 quid not 200 quid for the PW.

Aerozine headset is fine after 2 ride. The bike is ace. replaced a Specialised stumpjumper FSR (for sale, Newcastle £500). It is considerably lighter and I think I'll miss the springy back end for rocky stuff but on my normal trails it is fantastic. I was sceptical about the whole 29er but it really does seem to offer advantages in terms of rolling and grip.

Geometry, as with all on-one bikes is spot on. Relaxed and I feel like I'm sat in it rather than on it which, along with grip, inspires confidence.

Mine's built up with Rebas, Crest hope hoops, x-kings, SLX groupset and on-one finishing kit. Charge spoon with green base looks nice with the green graphics.

Hi Parkwood owners... Pretty set on one of these but unsure what size I need. I'm right in the middle of medium and large, does anyone have one close ish to Oxford area I can have a sit\ bounce on?
Cheers!

Lots of confusion over headsets - no reason for this at all really.

This is what I bought for a 1 1/8" straight steerer:

BAA0087 Cane Creek Headset Bearing 52mm (1.5") 40 Series Steel
£10.00

BAA0463A Cane Creek Crown Race Reducer, 52/30mm (1.5" - 1"1/8) 110 Series
£8.00

BAA0092K CANE CREEK 40 SERIES IS42 INTEGRATED 1 1/8 INCH HEADSET
£22.00

If you have a tapered steerer then you need BAA0173A Cane Creek Crown Race, 52/40mm (1.5") 110 Series.

UK Bike store have a comprehensive range of pick and mix Cane Creek headset offerings - just pick the ones you need for your fork. I opted to buy a complete 1 1/8" headset to address the upper simply as it comes with two bearings - it works out cheaper to do it this way than to buy a replacement bearing on its own. Also note the crown race reducer is from the 110 series: price difference is marginal from the 40 series but materials/sealing is better.
The prices stated reflect purchases made some two months (or more) previous.

Hope this helps.

Hi. Thanks AL1967 for headset advice. Just ordered Parkwood frame and don't really like FSA headsets. Big fan of Cane Creek. For now riding Scandal v2, with Mixer smoothie. Not the best headset ever either. Can someone confirm, that frame is designed for 120mm travel fork? Or maybe 120mm is max travel, and design is for 100mm? I know it's bit late now, to ask for it, once I've ordered frame, but still better ask now then later. According to thumbs up rule, will frame take 100mm- 140mm fork, or 80mm- 120mm? Thanks.

I think somewhere back there Brant said 140 wasn't a good idea.

As for FSA Vs CaneCreek, most of both brands headsets come out of the TH Industries factory.

Thanks for reply. Just been on the phone with On One. Been told, that 140mm will be ok. Frame is optimised for 120mm, but anywhere from 100mm- 140mm should be fine. As for headset, I use to have FSA Orbit, CK, Cane Creek S3, 40 and curently 110 on my Salsa Bandito. I'm finding Cane creek designe and durability, superior to other brands. CK is good, but 110 better. 😉
If you looking to get headset by AL1967, and don't want to buy whole headset (BAA0092K), to address the upper, then you can get just the upper bit. Part number BAA0094K. I hope it helps.
Funny, now when I'm writing it, frame arrived! Hell yeah!!!
