guys ive got an on one inbred slot dropout model in fast red.ive used it as a singlespeed with 100mm travel forks and has been my do it all machine for the past 2 years.ive wanted to put bigger forks and gears on it but unsure what is biggest travel forks.is it the same as the new inbred or 456? it rides great with the 100mm forks and can be dropped down most steep dropins.ideally id like something i could travel adjust so in the winter i could keep it single.some pics of yours would be good. 😉
If it is a couple of years old then it will only technically be rated to 100mm. However there are plenty of people running them with more - I've seen up to 140mm.
Personally I won't go over 120mm or it all go a bit wandery uphill!
HTH.
hi fraser thanks for your reply.it rides great with 100mm forks but if i run longer then will need adjustable u turn forks or similar.120 sounds about right to be honest.i may keep as is with new 100mm forks and build a dialled alpine or cotic soul for a burly bike.
I've got an Inbred (normal dropout) with 08 Reba U-Turns. They are 85-115mm.
It feels fine throughout that range, really, although I normally just leave it in the 115 setting.
Why are travel adjust forks a pre-requisite for 'keeping it single' in the winter? Or have I misunderstood.
Here's a pic of it in 115mm setting:
Definitely best at 100mm in my experience.
hi stumpy.nice bike mate.the reason to keep it to 100ish as a single is the bobbing of lots of suspension when muscling the bike uphill.your riding a singlespeed out of the saddle alot more than a geared bike so the front end needs to be low and as little bob as possible.with the u turns then switched back in long travel mode for the downhill go faster bits.i like singlespeed in the winter for low ish maintainance.come to think of it ive singlespad for the past god knows how many years year in year out.
2nd gen I had was brilliant at 120mm. More fun & capability than a £150 frame should be.
I ran it with 29er rigids & it was excellent. 440mm rigids made it a bit steep (IMO), but with 470mm's it sat at the sagged height of a 120mm fork.
definately mostly besterist at 125mm IME
I had windy ones so on long climbs I'd wind them down to 100mm but at all other times it stayed at 125mm, fun bike indeed.
100mm on mine, feels just right.
