I have a Fox RP2 shock on my Trance. It's about a year old and was serviced (by Mojo) about six weeks ago. After what was for me a pretty fast blast around the Kirroughtree red loop last week I noticed a load of gunky black mess (oil) on the lower part of the shaft (around the O ring, which had been pushed off the bottom). I cleaned it up and didn't notice any more after the next ride but I'm wondering:
Is this because I've lost all the oil from the shock (and how could I tell)?
Is this normal (unlikely I know)?
Would this be covered by any sort or warranty from Mojo?
Should I send it off, or just buy a seal kit and have a go at it myself?
IME they do weap a bit post gunking, if it hasn't repeated my gut feeling is its fine. To find out remove shock, let air out and unscrew the aircan (not as scary as it sounds, and infact a good thing to do every few months if using a lot) and look - online instructions available, you can get little sachets of fox goo to top up the gunk if you wish - but if someone knows what weight oil fox goop is that's something I'd like to know as I'm not convinced it being blue makes it magic.
Keep an eye on it if you're worried, but some gunk is normal.
Thanks. Gunk is a pretty god description of what I saw. It didn't look like any of the light oils that I've used with forks, but I've never looked inside a rear shock. Maybe it's time I did 🙂

Last I heard, 85wt gear oil was the el cheapo alternative. However you can get a bigger container of the genuine float fluid for about £10 which will last forever anyway.

As for the leaking, mine has always done it, even after servicing by TF tuned. I think (hope!) it's normal.
'Lube' leaking from the shaft is a good thing. It shows there's some in there and it's not as dry as a nun's thatch, which is bad.
As an aside, if the O'Ring's coming off, you need a bit more air in the shock. Check your sag. Either that or you'r doing some proper rad drops, dude.
I had the same problem and after a hefty ride at Afan it was passing enough to actually drip down onto the frame... So performed a strip down, which is really easy just remember to let the pressure out or else you'll be collecting parts from the neighbours gardens :D... Once cleaned and relubed it is better but still passes a little fluid.
I was concerned enough to contact Mojo who basically said if it is holding pressure then it's not an issue, just a little messy.
