After a dual purpose helemt for both road and offroad duties. I like the look of the Catlike Kompact but is there anything else I should consider? Must be £80 or less.
TIA
Matt

They all look stupid in any situation. What counts is how well they fit and how well they are made

What TJ said. Get the helmet that fits best and have done with it.

I wear me Giro Hex and baggies on the road bike. No doubt I look daft but I'm happy.

giro xen and take the peak off if it bothers.

TJ - spot on, although some do look slightly better than others

Giro Athlon - it even comes with two blanking plugs for the location holes left open if you want to take the peak off for road use. I like mine, decent venting and easy adjustment.

The Xen's not very well vented for road use and looks ridiculous.

Bell Sweep and Bell Volts both look decent irrespective of whether peak on or off.

Why care what helmet you wear when riding your MTB on tarmac...unless you mean, no, hang on

I know, why not try a different tarmac forum, just an idea like

Specialized Propero from JEJames, nicely reduced - peak easily removeable

TJ/MTBFix/Enhft thank you for your contributions.
Tiger - I'm a classic mtb/roadie - SPD's and baggy shorts! I currently use an older Met helmet that looks ok with the peak but the peak really restricts viewing on the road (I also think it also looks rubbish without the peak). So if I need to replace it anyway I'd like to get one that doesn't look quite as special.
BWD/Clubber - will look at the Athlon/Bell helmets. Cheers for that!

Another Catlike worth a look is the Vacuum - if you look around you can find them for around £80 (Amazon had some for £79.99).

Very comfy and really well ventilated. Perfect for mountain biking where you are often riding slower as it somehow manages to maintain air flow even at low speeds.

Bell XC Sweep here.

Off road, with Peak.

On Road, without Peak.

Sorted !.

I use a Giro Transfer. It's officially a road helmet, but it seems that if I bash my head on rocks, it makes no difference. I don't use a peak off road though, so if you want a peak it is a no no. It is vented well so it isn't silly hot.

Dead cheap too which is a bonus. More expensive helmets are slightly lighter and have slightly larger vents, but I don't really see that there is such a difference that it is worth spending tons on.

Errrm, sorry for the stoopid question - but why do you need a peak off road and no peak on road? I think you can take the peak off my Giro, but I never have - even when riding my Caad8...

The peak is to cut your nose when you crash offroad

I find the peak on my old Met helmet restricts my view - so I take it off if I'm on the road bike (more head down, backside up) than off road where the body position is more 'sit up and beg'.
