6x3x2 (6 speed freehub, double, 3speed hub) ?
only other combination getting close is 3x11?
Dont envy him in the slightest, by all accounts I've read/seen rural areas of the 'stans are horrible places. Much rather head north and go through russia, tibet, himalayas and down into India.
My mum did a big chunk of that journey, on a bike, in the late 60s.
On a bike with a Sturmey Archer 3 speed! Heavy steel frame, steel rims, narrow tyres.
Not the whole way, as some bits were simply unrideable on a bike, at that time. Technology has moved a long way.
She's a bit 'unusual', my mum! 😀
