Hi there, I'm spending today building my wooden Wheelpro wheel jig, I've measured my brand new Alfine dynamo hub and and am looking to get the rim and spokes sharpish so I can get building, but I can't decide on a rim.
The rim will be for my off road tourer, 26" 32 hole. At the moment its a Surly 1x1 with an Alfine rear, but I'm going to change that to a Surly Troll when they come out. The rear rim is well dodgy and will be replaced when I've built this front wheel. The rim must cope with wide tyres like 2.0" Big Apples and 2.4" knobblies, and generally be well 'ard.
Any advice?
Mavic 719? better bet than a 717 if you`re loaded up, not as heavy as 521

It's what I use off road with 4 panniers a sturdy bike and a ahem big boned rider...........
They take a 2.0 Marathon XR easily. (mine are 36's though)
I was sort of thinking of just getting a pair of Mavic downhill rims, just in case I want to fun some truly massive tyres in the winter snows.
I'm not that keen on the Rigida's, mainly because I don't want a braking surface, disk only for that nice black look.. ๐ณ
521 or 719
I've got 521s on my touring inbred ... heavy but very robust.
