Who has done it? Where did you start form? What route did you take? how long (days) did it take? any good suggestions for accommodation?
We did the Wheelwright route in 1996 on steel rigid bikes with canti brakes - it was ace! Especially the decent off Brown Pike on the Walna Scar Road.

Anyway. We did it with BandBs and YHs which worked out pretty good. Did it in a leasurely 5 1/2 days. Defo don't try to camp. B&Bs if you can afford it for the luxury. YHs ok, but noisy if busy and you're knackered.
The lakes was hard.
Not exactly what you're after, but I'd finish with fish and chips from mermaid cafe in Whitby. Best I ever had and you'll have earned 'em...
I did it march 2008 using Tim Woodcocks C2C mtb guide, camped 3 days, 2 YHA's and one b&b, if you have the money would recommend avoiding camping as it isn't fun carrying it all on your back, especially descending black sail pass etc! eskdale and ambleside YHA's were brill would recommend them. other than that it's all common sense I guess, obviously clipless is a must, I rode a HT which was fine.
Took 6 days but that was with the short days could have almost certainly shaved a day off that in summer! started in st bees and ends in robin hoods bay, which is 5 or so miles south of whitby.
Just finished the Wheelwright route on friday. Did it 16 years ago, and just redid it for a mates stag do.
Did the route from Saturday through to Friday. I'm not fit at all and have to say that once out of the lakes the days riding is pretty easy. The Lakes are tough, and would be a right pain if it was wet.
www.whistlingjacks.co.uk is great accomodation in St Bees. The owners were great and the rooms are just huge. Loads of bike storage as well.
Stopped in Eskdale, Windamere, Kirkby Stephen YHAs.
Dales Bike Centre was a great place to stop in Grinton.
www.parkhousebb.co.uk in Ingleby Cross was brilliant. Very comfortable beds.
www.postgateinn.com was our final stay in Egton Bridge.
We did not stop in Robin Hoods Bay as our parents live nearby.
20thbear - how many days?
This is the route I took

Seconded. A girl at work recommended this place so I rode up the coast one evening and had some and they were proper delicious. And I'm not normally a fish eating person.
One quick point - if you plan to use YHAs, make sure you book early as many are on the walk Coast to Coast route so get booked up early. Grinton Lodge is a good one to stay in (old shooting lodge), but Dales Bike Centre is also recommended.
We didn't stay at Black Sail Hut YHA, but it would be good if you good - proper remote. You WILL need your strength for the climb over Black Sail Pass - it's a proper hike-a-bike route.
