Not so Smoove Smoove?

Has anyone else had Smoove go super thick and difficult to use? I’ve only used mine 3 or 4 times and it’s gone semi solid. I suspect it got a bit cold in the shed but has been indoors ever since and not made any difference. Wondering if anyone else has had this / worked out how to make it more liquidy again??

Suspect it needs warmed and given vigorous shaking.

Yep done that and it’s a bit better but still much more gloopy than it was. Maybe I just need to try harder.

Only problem I get is sometimes the nozzle gets blocked (need to remove the nozzle to clear it rather than pushing the blockage back in).

Soak it in hot water. Not boiling water, just hot tap water.

I always to this before use anyway. If I can, I also warm the chain to help it get in all the books and crannies.

I also store mine in the house because of exactly this.

Thanks. Hot water and even more agitation seems to have helped. I’m storing it in the hot water tank cupboard from now on!

Ah, I just binned mine as it was like a paste despite trying to squelch it around for a while. Couldn’t see it becoming useable again. Should have persevered it appears.

I've sometimes wondered if this would be worthwhile but short of sitting for ages with a hairdryer, how do you do it?

In the winter months, you'd find it draped over the kitchen radiator or handing in direct sunlight during the summer.

I've considered a few minutes in the oven with dinner when it's been deep cleaned, but not gone to those lengths just yet

Haha, drivetrain parts never cross the threshold at my house 🙄

Is a moot point, I think any chain that I was inclined to break/clean/preheat would be a chain I was immersion waxing anyway 😉

At this time of year I pop my Fenwicks professional lube in the microwave for 10 or so seconds (nozzle open) - works a treat.

Slightly related - a bottle of Park Tool degreaser has gone thick after sitting in the garage - not that cold. Bit of an expensive experience.

Bike products that don’t remain usable because you left them in the shed / garage - not a great bit of product design there!!

Yep, we get that, just poke a tiny screwdriver in the nozzle to clear it.

I leave my smoove in the cold garage and it's always nice and runny. Preheating the chain? Sod that, if I've run it through the chain cleaner and it's dry, the smoove gets sucked straight into the guts of the chain 🙂
