Heading down to a North Wales (Bangor yo be precise) for a family wedding . Im hoping to get out for a day whilst the wife plods round her aunts and uncles with the mother in law . ๐Ÿ˜ฅ Anyway my first idea was hiring a bike from Betwys Coed and doing the Marin trail but after reading the worst rides post Im not so sure now . Any other recommendations ?, the criteria being :
a) I need to hire a decent bike as Its not worth taking my own b) Needs to be reasonably close to Bangor
c) Chances are Im going to by pretty shit faced the night before .

I live locally and would recommend either the Marin or Penmachno. Don't be put off by what you read, I think it has a superb final descent and some nice techy sections. You can hire a bike from Betws y Coed.

Talk to Beics Betws, they can surely give you some suggestions as well as rent you a bike. Betws-Y-Coed is 30 mins down the A5 from Bangor.

Pfft, don't be put off. Marin trail is one of the two best man made trails their is IMO (The other being Laggan), and I have ridden a fair few. It was even getting a bit dusty at the weekend. The final descent is so, so good.

For god sake do Loop 2 at Penmachno! Did loop 1 also but aprt from a couple of sections, Loop 2 is better IMO.

Spent last week in a cottage about 100m below the end of the second singletrack section after crossing the tarmac road. The way down from it involved a short but oh so sweet 'cheeky' trail too.

We rode it 3 times as well as doing an awesome 'wild' ride from Treifw (Sp?) via Lynn Crafnant, down to Capel Curig and back over the top via Lynn Colywn (Sp?)!

Didn't do the Marin trail, we'll save that for next time.
