A group of friends are going ot be based pretty much in the middle of the North Penines AONB for 3 days.
Will probably head to Hamsterley one of the days as it's a mixed group and there will be something there for everyone.
Any suggestions / links to routes for another days biking in the area.
We'll be based near Cowshill so if there's anything nearby then that would be great.

Thanks in advance.

Si

Me and a few mates recently completed a loop starting from Cow Green Reservoir following the Penine Way to High Cup Nick then down into Dufton then back to Cow Green. Was a good ride despite the gale force wind, about 23 mile and 3000ft climbing. The descent from High Cup to Dufton was great fun 🙂

As Typer says that's a great route, you can make it into a full loop if, after reaching Dufton, you grind up the Pennine Way then the road to the radar station at the top of Great Dun Fell, then drop down off the shoulder of the hill (mountain?) on a rough old path/bridleway and head east back toward the road between Alston and Upper Teesdale. A bit of push/carry in parts but an epic - truly 'out there' terrain comparable to Scottish Highlands in places. Totally different to Hamsterley. Take a map and best done in decent weather.

Have a look at this thread:

You're up in Weirdale, so TBH it's as easy to get to the southern end of some of these loops than over to Teesdale or Eden Valley. And this is more of a complete loop than the out-and-back you'd get from Cow Green.
