Hello,
My friend has a bike fitted with a Nexus 7 on that he commutes on daily and has been in use for a couple of years.
It has started making a noise in the higher gears, most noticeable in 6 and 7 but also present in 5. It is not a clicking freewheel kind of noise, more a squeaking type of noise.
The bike has recently had a new chain and sprocket fitted and the gears adjusted and seems in generally good condition. I am sure the noise is not coming from the saddle or crankset.
Any ideas what might be up and what the fix would be?
Thanks.
I don't know much about them other than if you ride them when they aren't working properly you **** them up badly.
Get it to a shop.
I wondered if that might be the solution! does anyone know a Nexus friendly shop in London that know what they are doing?
Ninon at the Bicycle Workshop - she knows a huge amount about hub gears.
Shimano Nexus/Alfine hubs that are run in all weathers should have an oil dip service and re grease every 6 months.
Nexus hubs are not that well sealed and once moisture gets in it can make a real mess of the bearing surface/gear insert.
Yep, get it to Ninon.
