My collegues drive twixt sites and claim mileage for driving personal cars. I ride my bike about instead and am all smug about it, just wondering if anyone claims cycling mileage for NHS 'business' use?
I would ask HR or Payroll but they generally dont know anything useful.
There is a something for claiming cycling mileage but I think mileage is based on local agreement not Agenda for Change.
you'd struggle to claim for bike milage with my Trust - difficult enough to get them to pay out normal milage and expenses.
You can claim mileage allowance from the Inland revenue if you are traveling on company business.
Apparently you can with my trust:
First two miles: 40p/mile
Up to ten miles:14p/mile
never tried though!
Stick in a claim for 20p a mile which is what the taxman will allow you against tax (if you don't get anything) http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/rates/travel.htm
Or just tell them you use your car and claim that.
And stop being a smug c**t.
Just found this and posed the question to Head of Payroll.

Today I would have earned about 80p, which is enough to buy some nice crisps.

That's what one of our guys claims for his ride to the train station. Not NHS but just point them at the HMRC and they shouldn't have a problem.
