[Closed] Newbie question - swapping forks

I know this is likely a daft question, but I’ll ask anyway and hope for a good answer!

So, I’m looking at buying a Sonder Signal. The stack height on that is pretty low.

I’m wondering, if I didn’t get on with the frame, whether I’d be able to swap the forks (and other stuff) to another frame. I know this may not be too easy, but the key question is on the fork.

As they’ll cut the steerer tube to size when the bike is made, will that mean it likely won’t fit another bike?

I guess I should ask the same about other parts too, but I am hoping that’s a little simpler.

Thanks all!

The stack heights aren't that low, and you can always get higher rise bars if required. That said, the head tube lengths look fairly standard, and there's usually about 30mm of spacers on a new bike anyway as steerers don't tend to get cut too much so as to leave you with room for adjustment.

Everything else looks fairly typical - boost rear end, threaded BB, 31.6mm seatpost - so you should have no trouble swapping stuff over if you find that you need to.

Thanks!

I was wondering about perhaps asking them to fit another 10mm of spacers, but I guess that might make the bike look odd!

When it comes to swapping, let’s say a spacer is 5mm, what happens if the forks are cut by 2.5mm difference? Would I have to just cut them down more, or is there a way to deal with that?

The steerer tube doesn't go all the way up to the top of the stem/spacer stack. There's a gap so you can compress it against the headset bearings.

You can get spacers in all different heights.

No such thing as a stupid question

Or as my ex boss expanded ...

I’m pretty sure, as they are incredibly helpful, if you asked Sonder to leave a bit more length on the steerer tube they would in any case.
