Hi all, after (too)many years I've bought me a bike. My wife is still currently looking. It's her birthday next month and has it in her head she needs an activity tracker. I've looked and can't see one that would really do what she wants. Basically she wants a step counter for during the day and a gps/hr monitor for whilst cycling. But without the need for a separate computer...... can anyone help please?? Current favourite is the garmin vivosmart hr+ gps. Thank you in advance. J

That's what i have although i only use it for cycling and running, as I'm not bothered about daily tracking of steps etc. I'd recommend it for activity tracking as it's easy to use, comfortable and battery life is decent.

I have a garmin 735xt, it does steps, hr, gps, it was bought on a whim, but has proven to be a superb gadget for my use.
It has replaced all the cycle computers on three bikes.
Thoroughly recommended.
Bit pricey though.

A smartphone would do those things. A step counter with a weight in are pennies from eBay.

I've got the first vivoactive watch. It's perfectly servicable as a "smar****ch" GPS thing. Most of the addon apps on the IQ platform are shit (Accuweather is about the only one I use) but the watch is good and actually is the one I wear most (but I still use a "proper" garmin on the bike).

welcome to the forum. Same as Atlaz, I've got the vivoavtive (the square flat one with no HR built in but can connect a chest strap).
I agree about the add on apps - I don't use any.
But as a running/biking gps and a daily step tracker/activity monitor it's great.

I have a vivoactive hr

Missus has a fitbit and the social aspect is much better than garmin

Garmin though is much better on the bike though with strava integration

The vivoactive hr doesn't have a specific bike mode and can't connect to bike sensors like speed/cadence if that's important to you

I would look on the DC Rainmaker site , a wealth of information on there

Surprised no-ones mentioned the tomtom's yet. I have the basic one. It has a variety of sport tracking modes and also step tracking for everyday stuff. Auto sync with Strabane for GPS uploads and great battery.
As you go up the range they add music storage for Bluetooth and then heart rate. Although they all support heart rate straps.
