Anyone know if the cycling channel launching on Sky tomorrow is part of the Sky Sports package or will it be part of the base channel you get?

I have Sky TV but not the Sky Sports package.

Cheers

Just found this on the Sky forum.

"Bike launches into the Sports genre at 464
Channel Description: The first channel completely dedicated to the bicycle world
This channel will be available free-to-air"

Nothing there yet though.

Good grief they do

http://www.skymedia.co.uk/news/bike-channel-to-launch.aspx

Some real dross on there triathlon, mountain running ??!! Ermmm

But some road events, allusions to red bull stuff all presented by 'notorious' ex cyclists. Can't be lance surely ๐Ÿ˜†

Chances of seeing dirt rather than tarmac? I suspect low.

Though if Sky could unseat Red Bull ๐Ÿ˜‰

I suspect this is mainly a channel to shove long road races that they don't want clogging up the rest of the sports channels for half a day and to compete with ITV.

Is this on sky only or is it 'free to air' as in Freeview?

I hope Sky dont disrupt what ITV4 have been doing. ITV have been brilliant bringing cycling to UK terrestrial TV over the last few years, Id hate for them to have to pull out because of the Sky machine making it even less viable for them to continue.

It's been kept quiet! I have sky sports News on a lot and they never mentioned it. Everything else gets advertised every 2 minutes!

Searching Google there's barely any mention of it, just the link above.

Looks like it's a UK version of the one launched on Sky Italia a few years back?

Dont think this is a SKY own brand channel due to the lack of publicity. Probably something like Motors TV, Extreme Sports TV etc which are done independently.

Soooo... it's free-to-air, 24/7, covers all aspects of cycling, including race coverage of some classic races such as Gent-Wevelgem, Cape Epic, Roc d'Azur and Tour of Romandie, and then as a bonus it includes adventure racing and mountain running?

AND SOME PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING?? Jeez, impossible to please some people. Sounds like my perfect tv channel!

There's been a few ads on sky sports for 'bike' but very limited detail, I thought it was maybe a new series. Delighted it's a new channel. Nothing listed on the channel guide on the app under 464 though.

Okay, found it. It's just not on the Sky guide.

On Sky you can manually add the channel. You need to go into the settings menu and find the manual add channel menu and put in...

Frequency 11.306
Set it to 'H' for horizontal
Leave the defaults of 27500 and 2/3 and the rest of the stuff.

Search for channels and then in there the one you want is 52290 as it doesn't have a name yet.

Add the channel, then save. Then go to 'other channels' and you'll find 52290 in there, select to view.

http://www.lyngsat.com/Astra-2F.html

Standard def and looks heavily compressed ๐Ÿ™

Not going to be any competition to ITV or Red Bull

What's wrong with mountain running?

nothing in itself its great but not the most obvious pastime to cover on a cycling channel.

If they sort out the EPG then it'll be a welcome change from getting home to watch 3 hours of recorded tennis where there was supposed to bike racing (I'm looking at you Eurosport).

Works for me on 464. I just use my old sky box with no subscription so I guess freesat but mine seems different to those with a freesat box.

Found it on my cheapo freesat box. Tried manually entering details but it didn't work but found it on channel list > manual channels > 3086. Didn't have to tune it. Picture looks ok. Very good something else to stop me getting out and actually riding

Found it on Virgin today CH 552 - it's not on the online Virgin TV guide but its on. I've had no notification of it as a new channel (promo email etc) & tried googling it for an announcement - but nothing found...... but it's there on a L package.

Yeah the Italian Masters programs seem like a missed opportunity, I've not managed to watch one all the way through but it seems to just be a basic dull interview. What about factory tours, a closer look at key/defining products etc.

THe usual crap so far, missed the program I wanted to see because they showed some other random show instead, they even advertised the right program as coming up next before not showing it ๐Ÿ˜ก and all the road cycling news is a year out of date. They have some serious improving to do!!!

Anyone else enjoying the comic value in the tv show free wheels. Cant make my mind up if its supposed to be funny or is just the translation that makes it funny. Reminds me of the old eurotrash tv style of the nineties. Strange words creep in like calling ridng as bike as piloting . If this is how europe mtb realy is then it very different jn style to the uk scene, in that we are more serious about style and collness than they are. Not being critical just an interesting observation.

I just tuned in now. Free Wheels is er....different. Very Euro.

Shitty SD quality is a shame as well. Looks like youtube 480p ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

I think a lot of the current programmes would be much easier to watch if they weren't dubbed into English using cheap-80s-porn-film-style voice-overs!!
And if the picture quality was a bit better as previously suggested. All very amateurish which is a shame.

I love cycling with Filippa, it's like Eurotrash from the 90s without the boobies, badly dubbed and the dubbing actors not giving a toss. That said there are some decent tour blog things on there and it isn't costing me extra, so all good.
