Doing a spot of touring in a few weeks and have some new shoes to break in before hand.

Currently running crank bros on mtb and tourer but wandered if trying shimano trail spd's would be benefitial or should I stick with new cb cleats for compatability?

I love cb but would the more firm hold of shimano be better for touring?

I use CB Candys for all my touring. The platform is just big enough to be comfy. Unless you are going for road pedals and cleats I don't think the Shimano system holds your foot any "firmer" than the CB one.

๐Ÿ™‚

instead of buying a new set of cb cleats, I could get some new pedals for only a few quid more that come with cleats.

I can't imagine a firmer hold will be more beneficial. As long as you've no fore and aft play, then lateral and rotational give or slack is good. Well I find it is anyway. I think it is always good to change the shoe cleats every year or so anyway. They're cheap so why not. Stick with what you know and find comfy.

OK ! I use Shimano mtb shoes and pedals on my Audax bike but after longer rides 60 miles + I someimes feel that the bigger platform of a road pedal may offer more support

It seams a good idea to stay with cb as I like them and can still use the shoes on the mtb.
