[Closed] new hardtail recommendation - whyte 901 or alternatives?

Hi. It's time for a new hardtail 🙂

What are thoughts on something around £1200?

My riding is split pretty much 60% on trail centres routes (Glentress red etc) and 40% out in proper nature, on singletrack, fire trails and the like.

I've been riding a Kona Kula for about 4 years. Generally love it for being a fast climber and easy to throw around, except it gets a bit twitchy on some harder downhill sections, but that's more about my lack of mtb skills 😉

I've briefly ridden the Whyte 901 and I like it. Any thoughts on this, or on other recommendations?

Cheers.

On One 456 Evo 2? The Deore / Sektor build + Reverb comes out at £1100. It'll look after you on the downhills, it climbs remarkably well, is fun to ride and you've got £100 left over for beer.

To be honest, if you've ridden a Whyte 901 and like it, just about anything else at roughly the same price is going to feel a letdown.

If you're creative with the spec, and don't mind putting the bike together yourself (or have a friend that can) then you could probably get a Stanton Slackline frame, a Sektor or X-Fusion fork, 1x10 Zee, Deore brakes, 2nd hand Hope wheels and some budget finishing kit in for about the same budget. It would be a worthy, and more individual, alternative, if not quite as straightforward...

Just as a thought - I just bought a Boardman 29er after a similar thread on here, and it's flippin' brilliant...

Thanks! All seem good options, I'll try and have a look at some in the flesh next week. I like the idea of having money left over for beer 😉

Self-build not possible this time I'm afraid, as I'll be using the cycle to work scheme. Nice frame though!
