I have mashed up the rear Formula Oro K18 Caliper on my Commencal Super 4 good and proper. I was bleeding the brakes and destroyed the bolt thread in the caliper and now fluid just pees out when the brakes are touched.
The cheapest replacement like for like I have found is £75 which seems ridiculous as a rear Avid Elixir 1 lever, caliper and rotor is £50 but is this a massive step down in performance? FWIW I always thought the Oros were a bit cack anyway but I cant really afford anything much better and am happy running the Oro front for a while.
Shimano SLX for about £110 a pair from Rose Bikes, then sell your existing brakes as spares/repairs on ebay.
The Elixir 1 may/may not be a step down, but the SLX will certainly be a step up.
is there any compatibility issue regarding the caliper mounts or are all these things a set standard?
thanks for the rose bikes pointer, forgot about them. ordered a direct replacement, i know i said it wasnt great but i think thats as much about my poor bleeding ability rather than the brakes themselves.
