Picked up my new 'Cycle2work' purchase from the LBS today - a 2010 Kona UTE 😀

Bike only comes with one pannier bag so got another one on order due in next month. Not had a chance to ride it today due to the cr@ppy weather so hopefully tomorrow I'll be riding up to Tesco for some groceries! Plan is also to get a childseat added this summer so I can take my daughter off to the beach 8)

Nice one Andy; I considered one on my cycle2work but had to admit that a new bike wasn't the right thing whilst saving for a deposit for a house...

...sound like you're enjoying being back in Cornwall. "Plan is also to get a childseat added this summer so I can take my daughter off to the beach." Not something you'd hear in Derby 🙂

Soma_rich - they're £750 rrp.

Heathenwoods - don't recognise your STW name - which one of the Derby massive are ya? 😳 You're right though, not a phrase you'd hear in the Midlands!

Phew - i thought it was some bad scoring and a crack!

Class machine.

Is the pannier water proof? it looks like the top just folds over and you can see a right big gap on it from the front view?

Cool, looks like you may be able to squeeze a set of 29er tyres in there (just in case your ride to work goes off-road):-)
How heavy is it?

whilst I like the idea and look of these and think they would be useful as I am often strapping large amounts of shopping to my back, I have two fundamental concerns which stop me getting one
a) 90% of the time the rack would have no more than a rucksack and a bag of shopping on
b) I can't think of any advantage over a normal bike and a trailer
.
nice bike by the way

the surly big dummy can carry 400lbs wieght..,cant carry anywhere near that with a trailer...you do need the centrestand to load them up though...
folk move house with these things in USA and holland!
the kona looks real nice...wide 29er mudgaurds too!

a) Why does it matter if it's not got a lot on it 90% of the time?
b) You've got the ability to carry a big load 100% of the time.

I ride mine every day to get to and from work, or around town. If I decide to pick up two new bins on the way home from work, I can. If I need to carry a photographer on the back so he can take photos of other cyclists following behind on the way home from work, I can. If I need to call in for some shopping on the way home from work, I can, and I don't have to think about how much I'm buying.

JBarrykellett - yeah there is a gap between the sidewall of the pannier and the cover flap. Plus the zips are not waterproof either. Have to say that they could be much improved. I'll see how I get on with them and swap em if neccessary.

Andrew - yeah I thought it was you but wasn't sure lol!

Mark - think it weighs around 37lbs

a) Why does it matter if it's not got a lot on it 90% of the time?

because it's twice as heavy and twice as slow as my road bike
I don't like to hang about on my commute

Sounds like a cargo bike is not for you then. Doesn't make them a bad idea though.
