Well I've finally built my new full suss up.

It's a Nicolai Helius CC in Candy Red, put together with sale & ebay bargains (and a freebe off MBUK) and the wheels & shifters off my old one.

The rear brake hose needs shortening, something for the LBS as I don't have an Avid bleed kit, first ride tomorrow somewhere in Wales.

I've gone 2x9 with 22/32 up front and 11-34t cassette out back, the cranks will take a 34t front ring as the bash is a 34t one, should I find the bike a bit undergeared for pegging it down fire roads 😉 I've even moved my shifters & brakes around, & taken the windows off them too 😆

Very nice indeed, lovely colour, handsome bike. Those shocks put me off buying one though.

Got the shock for a bargain so thought why not.

It's my 2nd one Rachel so I'm expecting a most excellent ride, hopefully quicker on the downs due to it being the new geo. My old one was a 2005!!

German....it looks like it was made during the cold war era in the eastern block. I absolutely love these no nonsense industrial looking things.

It was a toss up between one of these and the Epithany I ended up with.

Enjoy !

One of the ugliest bikes ever, just as only Nicolai can be. I'm sure it rides well but it's like a BMW X6 - not for me.
Glad YOU like it though.

And I can report the ride is most excellent, after a good few hours at Llandegla and playing on the FR park yesterday.

Me, kitchen fitting isn't my forte. But I did do everything in there from scratch

Nice one! Did a very similar job myself with exactly the same frame (in anodised silver) and bits of old bikes - apart from the frame I spent exactly £30 on a headset - and it absolutely rocks. New it would be over £3500 but even as a bike built out of spare bits it is my probably my favourite - including over my AM. I keep wondering how good it would be built up with good gear rather than bin ends - maybe one day!!

Just love Nicolai bikes!

I think the answer is very, this one has much thicker chain & seat stays than my old one and is silly stiff when coupled with the bolt thru forks.

5 minutes with a screwdriver adjusting the hinges and that door will hang nice and straight.

oh, nice bike btw.

Reckon they are one of the best looking bikes myself. Tempted by an AC or an AM. Was thinking of a raw finish, but now thinking a candy red front and raw rear would work well!

What size forks are those, look a bit long for a CC?

@ mrblobby - they don't have Candy Red on the colour chart anymore, i believe this is the last one.

The forks are Marzocchi 44 Micro Ti's set at 140mm, I think it's the angle of my cupboard doors making them look long, they seem to have a shorter A2C than my mates Fox 140mm Float 32's.

This photo makes em look a bit better.

Very nice indeed. I'm off to look at my nicolai catalogue again...

Out of interest, what size is the frame and what size are you?

Dammit!

(goes to drool over the Nicolai website again and spec up a frame that I don't need/can't afford, probably the Nucleon AM with the Roholff Gboxx again!)

@ mrblobby: I'm 5'10" and a little bit with 32.5" inside leg, the frame is a medium.

@ Munque-chick: Nope it's B&Q Antique Cream, so more than likely the Howdens one or any similar Magnet one as they're all the same units and doors 😉

Great looking bike - that red is excellent.

I love my CC - best bike I've ever ridden. (I'm smidge under 5ft8 and also ride a medium)
