New bike day! (It’s a hybrid)

For the last couple of years I’d been using my trusty Genesis Fortitude Adventure as my town/shopping bike.

I had it build with an Alfine, full guards and panniers. Despite loving the ride off road it was a real pig to ride as set up. A combination of weight, sluggish, strength zapping Alfine and dead feeling (bolted rear hub and highish psi tyres) ride … I wanted a change.

After not finding anything SH I picked a new Marin DSX2 frame and fork from Nidderdale Cycles. I pieced the build together with some hoarded new parts and a couple of bits from the Genesis. It’s a bit lavish for a town/shopping bike but it addresses all the issues I had with my Genesis - it’s even got the ability to run a t type rear mech … none of my other bikes have that 🤣

I’ve got a dynamo to try come autumn and I need to think about guards but whilst it’s dry that’s a tomorrow job.

I’ve a bit of tinkering still to do to get the bar height right but it’s a real hoot to ride, quick too.

Not my railway so flame away 🙂

I initially thought the hybrid was going to be part electric!

Looks nice anyway. 👍

I think it would look even better with some nice Matt black mudguards.

I have just ordered a brown frame and wasn't sure if tanwalls would suit it, might be too much brown.  You've shown it works, thank you.

Very nice!

Makes me want to put some flat/low rise bars on my gravel bike.

Nice. I think a set of SKS edge AL mudguards would suit that bike.

Thanks folks … hybrid love it.

I’m quite liking the idea of trying it off-road 🤗

Will give those SKS guards a google.

@Mister-P … all ways room for tan walls (I had these already which was handy)

I’m not sure what’s happened with the photos when I uploaded them though as it’s much more of an orange frame  in the metal.

Well that’s embarrassing … those SKS guards are the ones I had on my Genesis 😆

I do like a good hybrid, marked down half a point for absence of guards to maximise the utilitarian element.

However, I do feel it was very unsporting of you to give us Network Rail's back garden instead of your own to critique.

Would that slim saddle not be a bit hard for off-road?I have a suspension saddle on mine.

We had Bontragers on ours, I think they are less rattly than my SKS edge AL's

Tanwalls you say.

Mudguards others say.

Bar bag utilitarian I say.
