Got my new Starling Murmur frame last week and managed to get it built up for a ride yesterday. Have to say that it's a fantastic bit of kit, and Joe from Starling has really excelled himself!
Oh hello....
nojs. Although the front seems to be having all the orangy fun.
Very nice. What numbers (reach, angles etc) did you go for?
BB and rear hub are both orange as well!
Reach is 522, head angle is 63.5, seattube is 485
Wow, I thought Cotic were perhaps pushing the long and slack a bit far with the new Flare Max. That's taking it to a whole new timezone. Presumably you are seven foot tall and only intend to ride it down hills 🙂
Haha, nah I'm 6'2", but I've been converted to the longer, lower, slacker bandwagon since my brother got his extra longest Geometron about 18 months ago! To be honest though, it climbs better than the bike it replaces (large Commencal Meta SX) and descends absolutely fantastically! I know it's not for everyone, but I really feel like it's the right size for me and I'm loving having the extra length!
So, if I'm reading that right, you've gone from a reach of 430mm to 522mm. No point doing things by halves right 🙂
Presumably it's a fair bit harder to lift the front wheel up on this, but maybe you don't bother with such trivial things anymore. BRAAP 🙂
Looks brilliant!
Yeah, the commencal has a reach of 435, and I had a 53mm stem on it, now I'm on 522 with a 35mm stem, so it's an increase of just less than 70mm!
To be honest, I can't really say it's much harder to lift the front up, maybe it'll become more noticeable the more I ride it!
Cheers tall_martin!
I like that very much.
Thanks jamj!
No worries - it just looks ‘right’!
I know it is, but it really doesn't look super long. Just looks right.
Top stuff.
I've got a bit of a thing for steel bikes and I've been giving some serious thought to a steel FS 29/27+ build for a while.
However.. I'm mega short (5'4") so worry that it'd be a bit silly to even try it.
By the way. I'm mega jealous. That looks awesome
Nice!
Bike = 👍
Design of Bottle position =👎
Lovely bike! 😍
Only negative I suppose is that as it's designed specifically to your tastes it might be hard to sell on eventually?
Not taking anything away from it mind, it's a beut!
*does a s3x wee*
Cogwomble, there's only one way to know if it'll be silly, and that's trying it!
Yeah, bottle cage position is unusual, that's for sure. Still better than not having one at all though!
Poopscoop, yeah, I know what you mean about the resale, but to be honest, I'm not one to regularly swap bikes, and this was made to the perfect geometry for me, so I'm hoping I'll be able to keep it for years to come, and will never have to worry about it's market value!
Love the look of these bikes. Had my heart set on a Swoop but got pissed off with the waiting list raffle Joe insisted on so went for a BTR Pinner instead.
Yeah, I know what you mean with the raffle system, I guess I was one of the lucky ones to actually get on the wait list. Been a long time coming as well, the entire process started about 9 months ago, when I bought a t shirt as a raffle ticket!
I had a fb chat with him when he announced the same system with the stem caps. Apparently everyone that bought a t shirt "won" a place on the waiting list, which does make me wonder how many people would have signed up to a usual waiting list. He said he'd done it that way so as not to cheapen the brand (whatever that means), smacked of profiteering to me.
Anyways, if it rides as sweet as it looks then you've got yourself one damn fine bike my friend. Enjoy!
Joe from Starling here... Really sorry you think I'm profiteering, just trying to make a living. It's quite hard to deal with a situation where I have a frame that's very in demand, but nobody is keen to wait.
I really don't want to end up in a situation where I can't fulfil the waiting time I have promised to people. This is a sure fire way to piss people off and get a bad name. I'm also a new business which is changing rapidly, this makes planning tricky. Therefore, I need to limit my waiting list. I'd had lots of enquiries where I had declined people, so I felt a first come first served might be unfair. The raffle was my solution to this and worked well for the people who applied. I didn't make an profit from the raffle other than a donation to a charity I am close to.
I'm trying my best to keep everyone happy.
Oh wow that’s lovely mate!!!!!! I love the gusset by the head tube!! Beautiful Bike!!!!!
