We appear to have four chubbies in the family! This one is to share with my 16 year old daughter who is only a couple of inches shorter than me, but all my bikes are just a little too big. If it'd been for me only I'd probably have had a large.

2nd hand frame off here, everything except stem and bar from spares (I might have too many bikes...), quick car park test suggests it's going to be a whole load of fun. She's riding with me later this week. I'd best go give it a shake down tomorrow first 🙂

Spec is mostly spares from my Mojo3 which has been pointlessly upgraded:

Frame: 2nd hand Solaris Max in Medium
Headset: Cane Creek
Fork: Rockshox Yari dropped to 120mm
Wheels: Ibis Alu 41m external with Ibis hubs. A lot lighter than scrapers.
Tyres: NN 2.8s
Cranks: RF Turbine with 30T oval ring and stupid Raceface oversized axle/tiny bearing BB
Pedals: Nanos
Transmission: XT 10 speed shifter, XT shadow+ mech, new XT 10 spd cassette and KMC chain
Other bits: KS Lev 150mm post, Spoon saddle, SLX brakes, Raceface 60mm stem and 750mm Easton Haven carbon bars.

The Yari is a heavy fork but it's still a pretty light build. Should be fun in the FoD. Assuming it stops raining...

Ah the old upgrade one bike so you have spares for another and n+1 game 😆

Ta. She had a lovely XS turner 5 spot before. We were very sad to see that go. She's got some good skills not inherited from me, but it's getting harder to drag her away from - well - being 16 basically 😉

Congrats on the new bike. Very nice.
Congrats too for getting your daughter to ride with you. Mine is also 16 and hasn't hardly touched a bike in 2 years 😥

I have played that hand quite a few times 🙂

We don't ride as much as we used too. It's great fun when we do tho. I know come Feb next year she'll want to drive so this might be the last summer for a while. I intend to make the most of it... the great thing about riding in the FoD is you're never that far from a nice sit down with an ice cream 🙂

Well I've ridden it. Climbs really well but that might just be because I'm comparing it to my FS. Steers a lot quicker than my 29+ stache. Started with a bit too much air in the tyres, ended with probably too little but there's a sweet spot somewhere.

It's basically a 2 wheeled go-kart. Has a lovely balance and whether it's placebo or not, I'm a fan of the steel ride. Happy to ride al the gap jumps. No obvious vices. Just fun to ride.

Taking child 2 out Friday so we'll see how that goes...

Took my daughter out

As you can see she was delighted to have her picture taken while eating an energy bar 🙂

Jessies new bike day by Alex Leigh, on Flickr

But since she hadn't ridden off road for 2 years, she did fantastically well, The pic below is actually a video on flickr. Always fun watching the fork working! Also made me realise I'd let the clutch turned off, check out that chain slap...

Jessie on her new Cotic Solaris Max by Alex Leigh, on Flickr

Needs narrower bars. Otherwise a great fit. And as she wants to come out again - once she's stopped aching - that's a result all round 🙂

Well, I've a Sherpa and a SolarisMAX in chubby flavour. These things happen (far too easily if you ask me!) 😳

If it weren't for the state of my bank account, I'd think they were breeding like gremlins 🙂

Aye, if I had space and money there'd be a Flare or RocketMAX kicking about mine as well...

Just as well I've neither (mind you I did just sell my motorbike..... 🙄 )

No, it's almost an 'austerity shed'. My long sold fat bike was the gateway drug into the world of chubby. Then I bought a 2nd hand Stache which I converted from 29+ to 27.5+. Enjoyed that so much and being a cotic Famboi couldn't resist a flare max after a demo. And as I had a special birthday coming up AND an ex-demo Mojo3 came up that seemed entirely reasonable.

And this bike is for my daughter. Or a way to keep spares from cluttering up the shed. All makes perfect sense. I pretend it's a sound financial strategy and my wife pretends to believe me. It's the core of our relationship 🙂

Some would see duplication, I see only diversity and perfection 🙂 I am selling my road bike and my Bird Aeris. As I need to make room in the shed and make peace with my good lady!

I've studiously avoid the demo days (they ended up doing a demo <15 miles from my new abode, fortunately I was committed to my BAM for 17 :D) last time a bought the original Rocket...

Yeah I bought a rocket. And then a few months later, the demo Solaris that Cy goaded me into trying on the demo day. I didn't even want a hardtail!

The Mojo is useless in any kind of sustained mud, there's no clearance anywhere. It's a brilliant bike but it'll be put away when winter comes. That'll leave me the bare minimum of other bikes..

Shh Kelvin, I'm trying this one out as my latest strategy to justify the stupid amount of bikes I seem to have acquired!

It's was ace riding with Jess. I just came back from ripping round cwmcarn with my mates and that was fantastic as well. But if I could only have one... I hope I'd choose to ride with my kids 🙂
