[#3221426]

So I've around £1000 to spend on a new bike. just after some opinions, after a light hardtail that will take abuse..

Currently looking at:

Merlin Malt 4 - £1,109.96
with upgraded fork(reba SL) and wheels
http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/Bike+Shop/Bikes/Mountain+Bikes/Merlin+Bikes/Merlin+Malt+4+Bike_MERLIN-MALT4-BIKE.htm (fork is 100mm though, will i be able to make this 120mm?)

Genisis Core 50 - £1049.99 http://www.ukbikesdepot.com/m15b7s2p5067/GENESIS_Core_50_Mens_Hardtail_Mountain_Bike_2011/RS_GB/13560

Boardman Pro - £999
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_777785_langId_-1_categoryId_165499#dtab

Just wondering, am i missing anything obvious that I should be looking at around this price point?

So ooking for opinions on the 3 bikes above.. Genisis has the lesser fork that much i can see. Bit of can't see the forest for the trees here for me, makes your head spin the choice out there!!

I would go for the Merlin with SLX and the Recon over the Reba.

Aye, not much of a difference then between reba and recon? the Merlin is my favourite so far tbh.

Why not go for something a little different, say a Genesis IOID with the Alfine 11 hub?

It's a bit over budget but there was a few deals around a couple of weeks ago. It's not the lightest but it's no heavyweight either.

I've heard the geometry on the Boardman HT's is a bit dodgy...
