the answer is that at no point do you actually pull the crank with a bit of string while riding.

We did this during a "team" event with work.
Of course, the point during the workshop was that we found a way to come to make a desicion as a group. That was a fun few hours. Not.
Brilliant excercise though, the big reveal at the end of the day when the leader finally pulled on the string was glorious.
Going home to try it again tonight!
