[Closed] Need a new stem and bars - do I go 35mm or stay at 31.8mm?

So, just finishing off my new build and my 70mm stem is too long now.

The new frame is longer than my old one so I want to shorten it down to 50mm at most.

Do I stick with 31.8mm, I need wider bars so would upgrade these too, or go to 35mm.

Is the main benefit just the strength?

Cheers

I've stayed 31.8mm.

35mm supposedly allows a lighter bar for the same strength/stiffness, but some say it's too stiff and 31.8mm allows shorter stems if needed.

Not much choice (though what there is seems to be heavily discounted) of bars/stem.Means you can't go down to 30mm reach if needs/wants be either.

I've worked out a 40mm, 50mm at most gives me a good riding position.

I'll stay 30.8mm and maybe try carbon bars.

My bars are 711mm at the minute and I'd prefer 740mm minimum.

I'm about settled on 780mm I think, Race Face Sixc and Superstar Lithium both working great for me.

Chakaping, I've kept that bar in my basket for ages. I'm still thinking maybe a Renthal Fatbar lite and stem.

haha, I've no experience of the renthal but that sixc is what I have on my 29er and it's the best bar I've ever ridden.

Maybe with a cheeky 45mm stem?

785mm wide, maybe 15mm rise - the backsweep is just right too IMO
