they were using the A5004,
I've got to be honest though, for what was billed as a national event (i find out later) I'd have thought they would have shut the road.. it was busy with cars and I'm sure some of were held up by traffic.
looked well attended though.

That's really bad, as you say, sure traffic would've played a part, drafting too, particularly with such small winning margins! Sure they normally shut the road. Isn't it often at Curbar Gap? I noticed the BUCS hill climb was there yesterday, could've combined the 2.
