Following on from my thread a few weeks back, my first drop-off (suprise!)
I was wondering how the Stw collective would tackle this larger drop-off.

I'm guessing, run in a little quicker than the previous drop and weight a little further back?

pretty much like the picture but not so fast I blur /enter another dimension bit of speed land with wheels matching the down slope - too slow you will endo too fast you may go further than you wanted to

confidence is all you need and the only thing that will see you doing it correctly. A lot of people on here seem to think talking about riding improves riding.. sadly it doesn't. Riding improves riding.

yes he is right you dont need any skill or ability or bike handling just have confidence that it will be ok and dont ask how to do it just know you can do it.

He's done a drop already and survived, all he needs now is practice until his confidence matches the new drop size! I don't see any amount of "tilt back on your heels, get your bum 5" from the rear tyre will help him". Someone like Jedi would be of use but I doubt a collective of IT consultants will.

once you have the technique right for a drop off a kerb, then you have the technique right for a drop off anything. Match the energy of your push to the speed you're going, not the size of the drop. And then it's about waiting, you'll reach the ground eventually. Jedi's 3 different sized drops prove that perfectly.

Of course, technique is one thing, you also need the mental skills too, and like most of us there's a limit to the size that our mental skillset will allow us, but that comes with time and practice.

I know I could land that - but now I have the mental skills to bottle it and not feel unmanly as a result of bottling it.

looks like a good one to progress on though. Start on the rollable bit (I assume just left out of shot) then just keep edging 6" left, if you get to the tree in one piece then good on yer ๐Ÿ™‚

Another thing...

As other posters have said - if you don't think about it then intuition matches your push and speed. Once you start thinking about it - then you might crash and put more thoughts and demons in your head. And possibly break bones separate shoulders etc

Then it takes Jedi ( other coaches are available ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) to get you over your mental blocks and lots of gradual practice to get back to what you just did without thinking.

Your threads are interesting and fun but are you opening the door to demons by starting them?

totally valid to ask, that is how we learn, not just by injuring ourselves in increments.

cryptic answers don't mean shit.

I would say that having a technique and gradually extending it is the way to go, but I'm a massive chicken. Having broken a leg that took 9 months to get to fit for purpose, some level of pragmatism is sometimes advised. depends how rubbery you are.

I'd try and stay in focus.

Seriously, there's too many subtle movements going on for anyone to really explain what to do on teh internet. If you just pull on the bars, you'll probably go flying off to one side and die. If you just lean back, you'll probably take a massive nose-dive and die. So if you want to avoid premature death, I'd ride with someone who knows what they are doing, or practice going off something around two steps high until it feels right, and you are very fluid in your movements and not yanking at anything.

Not surprisingly, Jedi is right with the pushing comment, but there is far too much going on to explain why.

Thanks for the advice so far guys.
I like winterfolds idea of starting on the rollable part and edging left each time.
I can't wait to get up there and have a go now ๐Ÿ™‚

I like that drop, the good thing about it is you can work from left to right (in the picture) over time to increase the size of the drop as your confidence grows.

Lack of bottle this morning.
That drop looks like a chasm! ๐Ÿ˜ฏ
I might attempt again tomorrow (Ill kids permitting).
I should have someone with me who can do the drop so I'll be able to watch how it's done.
