Seat Angle looks WRONG.
is that a 29er or are you the same height as kim jong il ? ๐
scratch just saw the 29er in the title .... its getting harder to tell from photos these days - no wacky headangles or bent tubes to get it all in there
This is a trick isn't it?
I bet that's not your garden at all.
no wacky headangles or bent tubes to get it all in there
apart from the wacky seat tube
Looks ace!
(although with all the custom paint options Nicolai do, it's a little boring).
seat angles fine climbing [photo is angled].
had no choice with the colour otherwise it'd have been ano orange front / ano black rear.
What happened to the other (green?) AC29er you had?
Looks nice, by the way.
its gone [px'd]
Way nicer than that steep lookin christmas themed bike you had.
Nice ๐ always like the look of Nicolai!
i liked kermit !
Badly phrased, what was the reason for a change- is this different to that last one?
[Interior Nicolai headquarters, day, Planning meeting]
"We need a long travel 29er"
"lets copy that new specialized, but do it vaguely industrially looking"
"will that work?"
"it has up to now"
bigrich - this was out 12 months ago beating the big S.
vinneyh - designed for 140mm fork, slacker HA.
a 2012 bike? are you ill?
๐
haha, yes - a 2012 bike thats got 2014 geometry. ๐
Is that Ex Dipper or Pilot?
Looks better than Kermit the Christmas tree IMHO... but I am rather biased about black Nicolai's ๐
This must mean the Ion 29ers are on the way... 8)
Could you sling up a pic of Kermit please? I've forgotten quite what it looked like.
here's kermit :

ION 29ers due in July apparently although they're built.

haha, yes - a 2012 bike thats got 2014 geometry.
2014 geometry only 0.nowt different but it makes all the difference ๐ As proved bikes with the wrong angles explode and can't be ridden by anyone.
Heads off to check best before date on current bikes.
Kermit is way nicer, not knocking your new bike as I'm sure it's amazing, there's just something I don't like about it which I can't quite put my finger on.
new one's to clean, that's all.................... ๐ฟ
may take a trip up Pitfichie later on to get it dirty ๐

Which mass produced in Taiwan Specialized frame in particular does this (or any other) work of engineering genius Nicolai look like?
Have you ever seen one up close or ridden one?
I think you are selling them very short indeed.

Is that Ex Dipper or Pilot?
Looks too steep to be the Pilots, I'd say it's dippers...
Looks awesome...
That's bloody lovely that is.
I like it mate, the black looks nice. What is the seat angle though???
no idea but the short stem [50mm] and wide bars [800mm] are just too extreme.
back to my 750mm's on 70mm stem methinks.
Looking interesting, geo stats + weight please, a Pinion on that as well would have made my day.
no need for pinion - XX1 is simply brilliant....
weiging in at 29lb give or take dependant on calibration of scales.
will lose a lb once i get my carbon wheels and consider tyre selection.
It's Dippers. Mine has gone to an ex STW staffer. It's really nice. I'm rather partial to the black.
@Metalheart, mine (the_pilot aka chainline) has a -1.5 angleset in it and 150mm fork. part from that pretty much the same frame. Rides sweet. Munches both miles and gnarr. Ideal for ooop North.
And yes...eons before Specialized. As was the Ion in conception..
Enjoy it TLR.
No one`s mentioned the bonkers Reverb hose! ๐ฏ
It's nice, but:
They've forgotten to put the front mech on - schoolboy error really.
Bet they charged you for it too, bloody shysters.
They've done a good job with the primer. What colour will it be when it's painted? ๐
No front mech....... Never noticed.... ๐ฏ
๐
It's a lovely looking bike, as well you know. ๐
I can't stand matt black normally but that pulls it off.
I'm no lover of black. I prefer kermit myself, but the revised geometry and the px was a clincher.
Going to have to sell a kidney and get a helius ac
Looks good TLR.
I like the black ano on a Nicolai.Love My AC 650b,good neutral handling, climbs well, descends even better than my old AC
Looks very familiar Simon ๐
It has a nice low bb so watch those pedals..... ๐
Any Pedal strikes??
Will this be the bestest best bike ever ever ever?!
How big is that frame?
I like Nicolais in general, but that seat tube angle just looks wrong. ๐
Any Pedal strikes??
Classic..!
๐
Not yet and its 1.5cm above my fireline EVO static.
HorA, med ST and long TT.
Chunky, not sure as kermit was very very good indeed.....
Very nice. Any pictures of it dirty yet? It's not as though you were lacking for rain over the weekend, so no excuses ๐
Cool.
I also got a new Nicolai this weekend. It's everything I'd hoped it would be, absolutely delighted with it.
Yeti man, BB is higher than on the std Nicolai ST so there won't be any trouble with pedal strikes ๐
ST effective angle is 73deg in that configuration but the ST itself is offset by 40mm meaning it looks much slacker but isn't. nNicolai don't do bent tubes so its a different way of achieving what most other manufacturers do by hydroforming. Nicolai think that weakens the structure too much. Which is why it makes the seat angle look different even though its likely horizontal.
well it got a proper run tonight over some of my favoured local trails.
it hides it's weight surprisingly well [@29lbs ish], rides nice, no pedal strikes, stable but bars remain crazy wide at 800mm, although i'm getting more familiar with them.
the TALAS is defunct, but I'll perserver on steeper climbs with it and see if I need it or if a FLOAT would be more appropriate.
neither the SA or HA are issues but it does ride SOLIDLY !
not too dirty out there bizzarely, heres a dirtier pic :

It looks, right. But I would say that!
really impressed so far with the XX1, but the best thing about it is the sheer silence........... not even a mechanical squeak or whisper - silent !
chainline - can you confirm the 4 travel settings at the rear please ?
