Just been out and rear end suddenly started to wobble badly. Quick inspection revealed a huge crack in the driveside swingarm 😯

It's a 2005 East Peak and I am the original owner. Can I claim or am I knackered?

Help appreciated.

I got a full NOS replacement for free on my 1998 Rift Zone but then I don't know if the warranty rules have changed since then

go and ask in Cooksons. They're a Marin dealer.
I'm pretty sure you'll get a new frame.

ATB are renowned in the industry for providing an excellent warranty service. I'm sure you'll be OK.

If not just tell everybody on here how unreasonable they have been and destroy their reputation

My brother broke a 2003 East Peak in late 2008
broke here:

I'm still suprised he had a tie-wrap/zipitie that big with him, came in handy to get back though

Anyway, they offered him a new (same shape) front triangle for free, or for £180 extra to cover a new different length (fox float r) shock with a 2008 (2007-2010 shape*) mount vision frame
He went for the 2008 frame as he didn't like the X fusion shock the east peak had

*The geometry varys wildy between model years IIRC, so just watch what they offer you
The 2007 one is very steeply angled for a 120mm bike, IIRC they had it in the magazine (singletrack) in issue 32ish and slated it. 2008 has sensible angles (but still a high BB height, it still won a 5 or 6 120mm FS test in What Mountain Bike I think though (with trek/specialized/giant etc)
2010 at least went quite slack angled (for a 120mm bike)
I'm not sure about 2009

Broke my Mount Vision just like that East Peak and got a new frame for free. The newer frames have much more material around the b/b joints - there must have been quite a few of the early ones came apart !

Thanks for the input so far chaps.

I've left it with Cookson's Cycles who, despite not being the shop I bought it from, were extremely helpful (as always) and are contacting Marin on Monday.

I'll keep you posted.

I've had nothing but excellent service from ATB Sales in the past - both with a Mount Vision that snapped after about 8 years, and a Whyte that did something similar. In both cases I had a new frame with all the extras need to swap my stuff across (seat collar/post, shock & front mech in the case of the Marin). All sorted really quickly too.

It would take a lot for me not to buy another bike from them in the future after service like that.

Hope you have the same result

I've had excellent service from Marin/Whyte over the past 15 years or so, but I very much doubt that ATB will deal with anyone direct, you have to go through a dealer.

Similar experience with my 2003 Rock Springs which developed a crack in the seat tube / bottom bracket area. Was replaced with a 2008 Attack Trail frame and a Fox Float RP2 shock which was a significant improvement on the shock on the Rock Springs.

All these lovely tales of new frames and shocks is making me feel optimistic. I hope I'm not disappointed at the end of this.

With my usual luck, some zealous employee will dig out a spare swing arm from a 2005 EP!

I threaded the BB shell of my 2004 Mount Vision.
Took it to Cooksons & they got in touch with ATB Sales. They kindly offered me a Mount Vision Pro 😀 front triangle for £120.

Needless to say i snapped their little hands off!

That bike is getting a bit like triggers broom, only the rear swingarm/shock, wheels, handlebars & crankset are original now...

Agreed - we deal with Marin and Whyte because of the bikes but also because the service is fantastic. They really go over the top in many cases to please the customer. No bad thing.

UPDATE

Got a call from Cookson's yesterday.

ATB are supplying me with a 2011 Rift Zone XC6 frame free of charge.

That is brilliant.

My thanks to sean (sp?) at Cookson's Cycles in Whitefield, Bury and to Gary at ATB.

It's such a nice change to be treated so well - and 5 years after I bought the East Peak.

Tremendous service.
