Any ideas how i get round this one?

https://imgur.com/a/8k1K9jT

teying to get at the bearings and unscrewing the rear axle a large piece just split off. Looks pretty rubberducked but how on earth do it get it apart now there’s nothing to stop it spinning?

its beyond tight. Stupidly so and like some stupid robot assembly tightened it in the factory.

Tis off an orbea - rims are race face but no idea on hub make….Formula maybe?  Race face I doubt.

suggestions appreciated!

Can it be tapped out? Might need to cut the end as it looks flared but...

If you've no idea what it is (even if you do and it's a formula one) there's very little chance you'll be able to replace it

Its pretty similar in design to some other hubs I’ve had. Should have been shimano on the rise but it looks a lot like a Chosen hub.

I need to get the freehub off to tap it out as the axle pushes the non-drive side bearing out. But i cant get the freehub off till I can unscrew the drive side end cap and no way to grab the axle now.

cant believe it was so tight.

Looks like its a new wheel 🤬🤬

Could you get some sort of expanding bolt in the broken end?

Obvious that one…..should have thought of it!!  I’ve a blind bearing kit. Will see what that can do.

Is the right hand end cap a left or right hand thread ? It may say on it.

many of those OE fit hubs have a hole drilled through the axle on the left hand side and a thread on cap on the drive side that needs to be unscrewed clockwise

I would be tempted to try to find another hub with the same dimensions and swap it. It's a bit of a nuisance but probably only about a couple of hours if you've built a few wheels.

I would get replacement nipples at the same time tbh.

no way to grab the axle now.

I'd not go down the expanding bolt route in case it expands the axle but there's no reason you can't get mole grips on that.

Blind bearing kit did it. Tried grips but it either crushed or slipped.

blind bearing kit smallest expanding collet went in to the axle virtually all the way through to the freehub so plenty of grab.

bloomin tight.

just gotta source a new axle n free hub but at least i know its chosen. Merlin deal with them so might source if my LBS cant sort me out.

panic over. Secret n+1 bike build already into testicle loss territory with my money siphoning!!! A new set of wheels i dont think i could cover without body part loss.
