Yes im looking to buy one of those do it all cross road bikes with tyre clearance and vbrakes (no disks thank you). I initially wanted steel frame with discs but was very disappointed with disc's and felt no comfort advantage of steel over Alu/Carbon. Alu/Carbon has price and weight advantage over steel though.
Ive done so much research ive gone full circle. I have learnt a lot to the point I now have a budget and a short list.

Shortlist/Spec
Frame Aluminium, rack mounts, mud/tyre clearance.
Fork Carbon with mudguard mount
Wheels Mavic Open Pro with DT Revolution Spokes
Drop Bars
Groupset Sram Apex or Shimano Tiagra
Chainset Compact 46/34 or 48/34?
Cassette 12-32 10 speed
Brakes Mini V Brakes Tektra

Budget £750.00 - £800 with stock wheels. Im happy with 2011/2012 models. Interested to know how much extra a shop would ask for the Mavic Open Pro option.
Bike target weight is 10kg 22lb anything less would be a bonus.

Frame: For the multicross style frame im not looking for short chain-stay raised bottom bracket eg Ridley x-bow, its too 'Cyclocross' (i think?) but its light has carbon fork and in my price range.
Giant TCX is aluminium fork, so no good.
Dolan Multicross kinda fits the bill but I get the impression its a heavy frame with steep geometry.

Most of the pros and cons are other peoples opinions ive picked up on the web so when they say the Dolan Multicross is heavy it puts me off , but it may actually be ok
eg this one here has a 105 groupset and weighed in at 20.6lb/9.3kg

Others ive deffo discounted are Tricross, Scott CX Comp, Whyte, Boardman CX Comp, Giant TCX. I want to avoid alloy fork and sora groupset.

I intend using the bike for leisure rides on disused railways, Sunday road rides, one night wild camps, self supported C2C, blasts though the woods. Comfort of a 32C tyre and carbon fork being important.

I hope someone can come up with the perfect steed.
Suggestions and advice greatly appreciated.
