[Closed] Mudguard fitting tips - road bike without discs (SKS Chromoplastics?)

I've done a couple of sets in the past, but I always seem to struggle to get a tight fit without them ending up rubbing, so what hints and tips can you share to make it easier?
And I'm assuming SKS Chromoplastics are still top dog?
They're going on an old Giant SCR if that makes any difference.

I have 2 pairs of Chromoplastics. They do the job very well but they can be a pain to get straight and even.

I just loosen them at all four of the stays, put them in the position I want them and then tighten each bolt a small amount in turn - like you do with the 4 stem bolts. Sometimes the tightening action will move the guard, in which case just slacken off slightly and re-do. It always requires a few goes and some adjustment but once in place, they're fine.

If the bike is made for guards, Chromplastics are good.
If you can stretch to them (& they fit), the Portland Desigworks are lovely.

If no mounts then Raceblade longs are ok.
If you can get them, Giant Defy guards are very good also.

Thanks guys.
Looks like tredz have the Giant ones in - http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Giant-Road-Bike-Mudguard-Set-Rapid-Defy-Dash-Avail-_34189.htm?sku=79327 but there are mixed reviews about how they fit.
A bit more pondering required.

You don't want a tight fit, I assume the bike isn't designed for mudguards?

The Giant ones seem to work, CRUD also, I prefer former.

I assume the bike isn't designed for mudguards

It has the eyes on the dropouts, so I think it should take regular guards.

I do have a pair of unused SKS Raceblades kicking around, so I guess I could just give them a try?

I have some Tortec ones that are very good. Similar to SKS.

P35's are not the best profile for tucking up into the fork crown. The square profile means that they sit lower than more rounded designs such as Bluemels. You can also get another mm or so by filing the mounting hold on the front to lift them tight into the crown.

Defy guards don't go under he crown and are another option. If all else fails, Raceblade Longs will fit and give you 80% of the performance.
