Forest of Dean. Ridden that trail four times in the last month thinking each time 'it cannot get any muddier'. Hah.
The rear mudguard experiment was not successful. Was a great ride though but not sure i have the mental fortitude to deal with three months of this. Bring me SOME SNOW!
Until then, what do you have? Surely no one is riding dry trails...
Some cross tyres on there will give you some mental mud clearance.
Clearance isn't the issue It's more steering and traction. Still if I'vm going to be sliding about in a comedic manners that's the bike to do it on!
I ride the fod about 3 times a week and it's particularly nasty at the moment! If you venture off anything other than the hardback trails! Epic fun but I have eaten an 11 speed chain in like 200 miles there.
Your right it is GRIM Ridgeway was YUK fat bike eating puddles all over the place.Did not help when it piss down for half an hour before then it was suuny first time in s while.
What the heck is going on with that front mudguard? U need a mudhugger set
Nah that's not mud, this was muddy!

Well you're making me feel better ๐
@rocketdog. - Mudhugger told me they didn't have anything yet. As soon as they do TAKE MY MONEY
I wrote a thing: http://pickled-hedgehog.com/?p=3566
I'm still waiting for the mag to do a cross v fatty v normal bike shoot out.
Mud is a huge part of biking in this country we need to know what's best.
Lightweight bits and dropper posts are irrelevant if your wheels won't go round !
"The rear mudguard experiment was not successful"
Its not long enough
I'd like to say mudhugger, but they'll be narrow for fat tyres
Where? Don't recognise it.
Near Yarner Wood, car park halfway up the hill
Duh. Of course it is.
Muddy round my way too. Rear mudguard is a requirement though, saves my back (and bumbag) getting completely caked
Riding rigid singlespeed, no maintenance or cleaning to worry about
^^ ๐
^^ ๐ thats my usual trick in the mud.
Is it just me or did anyone else think dantsw13's head had been replaced by a giant light bulb for a moment? ๐ณ
I rode Mountain Mayhem in 2012....
You weren't there man, you weren't there!
*Gibber, twitch*
I rode Mountain Mayhem in 2012....You weren't there man, you weren't there!
I was. It was horrible. I rode one lap and carried the bike the next. I was slightly quicker when walking ๐
We have quite a lot of sandy terrain, on well drained wooded hillsides. And some pebbly coastal plain stuff. Plus, of course, obligatory mud.
Gives a variety of trails, tend to just avoid the mud-prone ones - until you forget, pile round a corner of what started as a nice enjoyable almost dry trail, and then ---- "f*******ck !!"
I have no pictures of the Megavalanche 2014, i was too busy trying to wade through kms of mountainside in the claggiest mud ever over and around numerous others swearing in various languages as we hefted our blinged up sub 30lb enduro bikes with 50lbs of mud wedged in every part of the frame and wheels.

Featuring Sam Dale, Kimbers + Aidan (with annoying airhorn!)
The aftermath of last Sunday, very clogged up with mud, also had a bit of a push due to slicing the front tyre.

No mud, due to a lack of traffic. Rode the Pennine Bridleway from Settle to Malham and it was ridiculously wet and water logged. Miss judged the depth of a ford and got washed away in waist deep fast moving water!
Which got me thinking, we put a lot of kudos behind things like jumping, drops, berms etc which are rare in the wild. But very little gets said about more real life stuff like fording rivers, navigating in fog or accross moorland etc.
This cost me a rear mech:

M.
Castleshaw Moor on the western side was horrendous on Sunday. No pictures but it involved having to walk at least four times. I was much slower coming down it yesterday in the downhill direction than I was going up it in the uphill direction when I rode it last September in dryer weather.
Mudhuggers fit fine on a fat bike, just heat them up and widen them with a hair dryer, ala Rocketdog.
