Looks as if I will be in Vienna from the end of summer until Christmas, so obvious first question is does anyone know anything about mountain biking in the area? Trails, groups, good shops, how far into the Alps could you get for a weekend etc....

If it helps, was in Steyr last year for work and a few of the guys were into mtbing, plenty of local trails there, although. It's 2 hours east of Vienna. Sorry if its no help,
Not much locally apart from canalside stuff and park type stuff. Damn cold from September onwards.
If you have access to car then I'm sure there's stuff, but I never did. I just used the Gym during the winter. Never tried bike on train, but it may be on option. Sorry, not much help really. Great city to be in though, I had a whale of a time.
Cheers guys. Good to know. I caught the train from Klangenfurt to Vienna a few years back and I am sure I remember there being sizeable hills pretty close to Vienna. I guess I'll have to get the map out
