Hi just wondering if anyone has experimented with mtb tyres on this bike - a beinn 24 small ?

Islabikes themselves sell conti explorers which are 24x1.75. I'm wondering how fat you can go on this bike and not have clearance issues, although those tyres are relatively cheep online i think.

Just that the stock kendas are 24x1.5 and 1.75 doesn't sound like much of a change.

This.

We've got the Creig 24 which comes with the Conti 1.75s and they're pretty pants on that size of wheel. On the Beinn 20 they were a vast improvement, but at 24" it's clear something bigger would be better.

As to what there is clearance for on the Beinn 24, I can't help.

Some bloke we met in Salbach recommended the Racing Ralphs for the Creig.

Wasn't much clearance either end. I think we tried and failed with a 1.9

That's funny, my kids have bienn 24's and a 2.1 Rocket Ron fits fine.

Thanks - wow - sounds like rocket rons then! This for our DD who is envious of her brothers new voodoo and can't wait for her own mtb.

Just double checking are those beinn 24 "small"s you have? I guess distance selling regs I could always send them back

Once done I'll post photos of the clearance etc

(... beinn 20 small now finished with... )

I think the Beinn 24 only comes in one size. It's the 20" that comes in small and large. (I know this because we have Beinn Small and large (currently for sale ;-))

Bontrager XR1s come in 24 x 1.85 - Something a bit less knobbly if you don't need that.

Rocket Rons 2.1s are fine on a Beinn 24. But there isn't much clearance, so for really claggy conditions have a pair of conti explorers to hand in 1.75 as they clear much better.

But for most of the time 2.1 Rons are great.

fwiw I think the RR's come up small for a 2.1 on that wheel ?, the 1.9s on my wifes 26 inch bike almost look fatter. And getting that wheel past the x4 derailleur seemed to require actual full attention as compared to any other bike which can be done with one eye open and an active conversation. Maybe because everything's so ickle.
