Looking at organising a biking holiday for around august, was in Morzine last year which was decent apart from it raining for 5 days and we are considering other destinations for this year. would like to try Austria (saalbach perhaps?) but flying out there seems to be a real pain in the @rse especially from Scotland or Newcastle/manchester. any recommendations welcome. ps we will be on 160-170mm travel enduro bikes.
If you want to go back near Morzine then Rush Adventures in Les Gets is a good option, I stayed there last year and I'm going back again this year.
Saalbach looks good and I've heard good things from the skiing fraternity about it.
Italy seems to be the place people are enjoying just lately.
cool i'll check them out, would like to try somewhere else to be honest. verbier seems to be getting good reviews however if its anything like it is during ski/boarding season it'll be extortionate.
Been to Saalbach-Hinterglemm the last couple of years and out there again this year.
I'm not a big gravity riding person but enjoy most of the trails there, haven't done a couple as they seem more DH orientated. Leogang is just over the mountain and can be ridden as part of the Big5 loop.
They range from 700m descent to over 1000m, and some great natural based trails as well.
Plenty of videos online of the trails

Milka-Line
Hacklberg-Trail

My favourite is the Hacklberg-Trail which is over 1000m descent.
There are 4 main lifts open between the 2 villages with good trails running down from all. Book a place in the area which offers the joker card as part of the accommodation package and the lifts are free.
We drive down so can't comment on flying etc, but Salzburg isn't too far away.
Verbier's unbelievably good, and www.bikeverbier.com are the people to do it with. The riding is amazing there, and BV have a van/trailer and sometimes use small local lifts well away from the resort to get to backcountry singletrack that's pretty much unridden. The resort itself also has amazing trails. Huge variety of riding in this area and BV will tailor your trip. Their holidays are proper quality - great accommodation and food, and guides who really know what they're doing. Also, you get maximum riding time - none of this thing where the guides disappear at 2pm to cook your tea. Plenty of folk on here are regulars with BV. Hope that helps.
White Room are almost completely booked out I think but I've been there 3 years on the trot and absolutely loved every year. Quite different holidays too, they've got a big bag of tricks so when we said "Let's do something like X", they did it. Really don't have a single bad thing to say about their setup and the riding's fantastic. It's not a downhill holiday, dare I say it it's very #enduro without the clocks ๐ In fact quite a bit of the riding is on the transavoie.
@felix - do you wanted guided ? IMO these holidays offer fantastic value and you will ride trails you'd never find and most have a van uplift option too
FWIW my list of such companies would be (in no particular order), many post on STW - have used some but not all
White Room
Trail Addiction
Bike Verbier
Riviera Bike
Basque MTB
Sierra MTB
Aside from that a two centre trip between Chamonix and Verbier you can do self guided via Chamonix Bike Book and Verbier trail maps / searching on here. In the summer they are a 45 min drive apart.
Only done the Alps once, with Bike Verbier. My opinion may have been swayed by the fact it was 30+ degrees all week and as a result, absolutely bone dry but it was the best week of my life. Bloody incredible riding, great hosts/guides, great food...
May take the van there next summer and have a few days riding on my own.
cool i'll have a better look at verbier, wheres the best place to fly to? any other bike parks worth looking at?
do any folks ever pitch up at those companies Jambalaya lists on their tod?
is it a couples thing, or groups of mates? only my mrs doesnt ride and i dont think any of my riding mates would fancy the expense...? ive been quite fancying a solo trip somewhere for a while. also, do any of them do long weekends rather than full weeks?
jaffejoffer - Bike Verbier quite often have one or two solo travellers staying in a typical week, as well as couples, groups and the occasional family - it's never a problem. If you email them, they might even recommend a particularly suitable week. The atmosphere is laid-back and very friendly, so usually everyone's having a good laugh round the dinner table by the first evening meal. They have enough guides to split groups according to riding interests/skills/fitness etc, so you get to ride the kjnd of stuff you like. Defo don't let being on your own put you off. You'd miss out doing a weekend - there's way too much great riding to do. Guess you could always ask though.
felix - you fly to Geneva. Bike Verbier pick you up at the airport (it's included in the holiday cost, and saves you significant hassle and dosh).
@jaffejoffer normally go with mates, but this year going on my own. Been away before and folk have turned up on their own for the weeks ride, so not a problem. Just depends if you're shy!
