Been out round the trails at Innerleithen tonight. Only previous lights were nite rider trail rat which was crap and a deal extreme light which died in no time. Rode for about1.5 hrs so a longer run would be a fairer test on the battery. It certainly has a long throw and a good width. I mounted the light on the bars and the rubber ring held it in place even when clattering down the Cresta RUn. The only problem I had was that the battery pack slipped down the top tube on the frame but that's only because the top tube tapers away towards the seat. I will try strapping it to the stem next time. I was with a mate who uses a more expensive light and to be honest there wasn't a big difference. The box claims 2200 lumens but I'm no expert so I won't even go into that! So far I'm well pleased with the light for the money and I must say Smudge was a pleasure to deal with. Miles better than my previous lights

Thanks for the mentions and orders everyone 8)
Up to last night all pre-orders and orders have been posted.

All orders placed today and over the weekend will be posted out on Monday.

As for reviews, its too late for most of the mags now as they work to a tight schedule and wouldnt appear for a couple of months, so and I prefer it this way is that I prefer reviews and feedback to come from you guys, after all you are the ones using the lights.

But many many thanks for all of your orders to mtbbatteries, I know I have been a bit slow replying to emails over the last few days, but pre-orders with new stock arriving took preference over everything else as i'm sure you will appreciatte.

Smudge

I'm looking forward to pictures of the kit and some beamshots. 8)

What's the weight of the light head, (I'm interested in helmet use), and is the cable long enough to hve the battery in a backpack?

As above, Smudge emailed me to say mine will be posted Monday. TBH given how busy he is I wasn't expecting that.

Planning a helmet setup and a 1st ride on Wednesday night.

Register and load them up on this site http://photobucket.com/

You then get an option to select 1 of 4 methods to allow you to post/copy to different media.

For this and some other sites select the bottom one with the img code;

this;- [IMG] [/IMG

which becomes this;-

I removed the last bracket ] from the code

Holy cr*p.

Smudge sent me an email Friday saying he'd post my Lumenator today for arrival Tuesday. Well, it arrived this morning.

THAT is customer service for you, thankyou Smudge, I can't wait to get home from work and have a play around.

what size is the battery?

That was my only concern.

I rarely use my V1 on full beam, a friend of mine bought the V2 a couple of months ago which is brighter and the lamp is neater and nicer looking. The immense burn time is what attracts me to the Lumenator, totally unnecessary tbh, but i dont want a larger battery to achieve it.

Its probably on my christmas list.

That looks great value. Are there any beam shots comparing it to a P7 light?

I'll let you know when I get home, I haven't seen it yet But its a 6 cell rather than 4 cell battery. I'm not concerned as I'd rather have 10 hours (70% or 1400 lumens) of power for the weight of two batteries than being stuck in a forest formerly used as a dumping ground by the Krays in the dark when the battery gives up 🙂

And I'll be keeping mine in my backpack. My last round trip was 4.5 hrs home to home in case your are wondering, making 3hr burn time lights needing constant on/off.

Does anyone know how these compare to the gloworm light from neninja?

These win on price, but is there anything else to it?

Thinking of either one as a helmet light, so would be interesting to know which is smaller and lighter, but its difficult to tell.....

Gloworm: 1200 lumen, £150
Lumenator 2000 lumen, £115

(MagicShine MJ-880: 2000 lumen, £140)

Any new info about the Lumenator? What does the beam look like?

I am interested in a small head unit to complement my new troutie, something with more of a spot for helmet use, but not necessarily so bright.

I'll be interested in beam shots if anyone has them.

The X2 is 80g including low profile helmet mount
The light head dimensions are - 48mm wide, 35mm front to back, 29mm high. The helmet mount mount is 10mm.

Gloworm: 1200 lumen, £150
Lumenator 2000 lumen, £115

(MagicShine MJ-880: 2000 lumen, £140)

You can't compare those numbers, Gloworm quote the real output, the Lumenator and MJ-880 both quote theoretical lumens from the emitter.

Well, mine is dead good. Very bright. Actually it quotes 2200 Lumen on the box.

So, it has a 6 cell battery wrapped in a silicone rubber (not plastic) outer, encased in a high quality case. I've mounted mine on the front of my Helmet and will carry the battery in a camelback. The quality extends to the connectors whereby the push requires and extra "click" - this'll stop them being pulled out on the trail. The four modes look good, even 10% mode would be ok for the road, from then on its bright to super bright. I like the way it starts "on" at the 10% mode and you click up to the full mode to avoid excess battery drain.

There is a concentrated centre but it easy blends into the outer flood without a defined "ring" - I'd say the centre is about 5ft wide when 12ft away from me, the outer flood about 3ft each side of that, so a good 10-12ft coverage in width before it fades away. Haven't had the space to check good distance yet.

I've taken some photo's and will try to post them later but the lamp unit is about 1 1/4 size of one of those Sun Maid raisin lunch boxes, it seem tiny, but very sturdy indeed and easily fits in the palm of your hand.

For the money, spot on.

I would like to see some pictures of the beam as well please 😀

At the moment, Im using a Hope Vision One on the bars and thats good but my mate keeps raving about these MTB ones so we are considering getting one each.

Daft question, but does the lead between the light and battery pack have connector on the light or battery ? also how long is the lead ?

Thought about putting this on the bars, and the vision one on the helmet, dont trust myself not to stack it with £115 worth of light on my head !!!

It'll probably be Wednesday night until I can get some (albeit iphone) beam shots.

Daft question, but does the lead between the light and battery pack have connector on the light or battery ? also how long is the lead ?

The lead out of the battery and out from the light has a connector at each end so that they connect to each other about half way along the length of the lead between battery and light. I'd estimate the lead is just under a metre long. For me, that reaches over the top of my helmet, and down the back into the depths of the outer netted storage of my camelbak with excess lead to boot...

Looking at the pictures of both lights mounted on helmets (not sure if I'm ok to post them?), they both look a very similar size.
Light output is surely going to be similar, they're both 2No. U2 LEDs and a similar package size so I would guess would be fed at a similar current due to similar cooling properties.
Haven't seen beam shots of the lumenator, but to be honest there's that much light coming out of both of them that I can't see it being a problem!
So I guess what the lumenator gains in price and battery life, the gloworm makes up for in the neatness of the helmet mount and its power button that can mount in a more convenient place.

Of course, my comparison above is based on never having seen either light in the flesh! My, how very STW of me! 😆

Mines just arrived, on a 'look directly in the beam test' it gets a rating of "That was a pretty stupid thing to do" Better test when it gets dark!

So...

Gloworm - 48mm x 35mm x 29mm
Lumenator - 51mm x 32mm x 20mm (approx)

Very similar sizes.

Now, where did I leave that spare £100 lying around....... 😯

Does the gloworm have 2 green glowing a la BMW "angel eyes" when the lights off but the battery's connected?

The Lumenator does, that's just sexy TBH....

Well, mine has just arrived, seriously quick delivery considering I only got the 'dispatched' email this morning and ordered yesterday. Unit is very small, smaller than I expected, everything looks like its been well made. Obviously not had a chance to test it yet, but from the 'shine it at the bedroom wall' test, everything looks great! Cheers!

I got mine today. The head unit is nice and small and everything seems very well built. It's certainly bright enough!

I managed to fit a Hope Universal Light Mount on it to attach it to the bars. It's straight forward to do but you need a bolt that's slightly longer than the original one supplied with the light and not as big a diameter as the one for the Hope mount. Luckily, I had some spare pins for my Nano Thru Pin pedals and that bolt was the perfect size. Yippee!
