Whats a good bike for the misses?
It will be her first proper mtb and she is keen to join me when I go out and was happy on the blue at glentress.
Got a budget of £600 or less, new or used.
Is it worth getting a womens bike? She is 5.3" might be a bit small for a mens frame with modern long reach.
Need a bit of advice and recommendations as there are so many choices.

Regards

1 X 11 gears, air fork, hydraulic brakes. Insane price. Can't go wrong.

I bought the Laura Trott bike for MrsMomo when it was £380, I thought it was good at that price (don't forget BC discount for an extra 10% off)

It's not the lightest but the kit is good, the fork even works!

Budget for a tyre upgrade and you can't go wrong.

Edited to add - I was planning to swap the brakes out for a nearly new set of Deores, but the Tektro ones are perfectly good and MrsMomo gets on better with the 2 finger lever on them.

Make her at least part of the decision. Test ride some stuff, speak to other women and maybe find a shop with women in it!
Womens specific is a bit of a con really normally it's skinny grips/bars and saddle (budget for a new saddle from day 1)

Specialsed Myka? Mrs TJ has ( a almost unrden) one. IIRC its not just the bars seat and grips plus a girly paintjob different - the frame geometry is different as well. MRs TJ is not comfy on my 17" frame bike - too big but the 17" myka fits really well

Laura trott bike purchased. She liked it and at that price if it lasts a her a year its still good value.
Contact points are all changeable. Plus with the saving got a few quid left over to change anything that doesn't fit (bars, stem and saddle(parts for me)).

Anyone know how the Trott 1 sizes up?

I have a family member looking for a new MTB, but they are only 4'11" so not sure if a small is too big?

Apologies for tagging along in the thread OP.

There's a few threads at bikeradar about the Trott (I don't know STW's policy on linking to other bike forums), but one post suggests the small is too small for someone 5'4" and the large just fits someone 5'10" with the default seatpost at the limit.
