[Closed] Morzine

If you want a lift assisted holiday then you need to be aiming at late June onwards (some lfts open a couple of weeks earlier). Nothing is open through the spring

No matter what way we've done it, self catering in a chalet or with a specialist company, we've never got much change out of £800.

Flights, beer, food, hire cars / shuttle bus, chalet, lift passes etc.

Guess we could save by refraining from drinking in bars up a mountain but it is a holiday after all.

the "owners Direct" web site is a good place to start looking for a chalet.

I assume you like the style of riding on offer in Morzine. TBH it bored me. Fast and jumpy with no real technical interest.

Southern Spain is very pleasant in the spring.

If you want to go to Morzine and it's your first time then the Passportes Du Soleil at end of June is a great introduction and a really enjoyable event.

I ended up buying a walking map and doing my own thing away from the DH areas. I'm sure it's good of its type just not my thang.

I wouldn't go to the northern alps in the spring, weather will be too unpredictable and the lifts will be closed. Go south, either pyranees orientale, alpes maritime/var and over the border into Italy, or Spain.

The good trails aren't on any map, walking or otherwise. You've missed out big time I'm afraid

Passportes Du Soleil buddy, get over for that it's a great event. The lifts fully open in the Portes Du Soleil area for that, so if you do it you get the event covering the area, then a buckshee lift pass for use in the following time you are there for; should cost about €45/50 to get the admission (including two lift passes). After that it's all up to you for riding the area, which is awesome!!! 🙂 As for places to stay, you can drive or pay for transfers from Geneva. I've stayed Self Catering with Rude Chalets (no dancing birds included!!!), also stayed at the Sherpa too ( http://www.jollygood.com/Morzine/W_Sherpa.html ) ...have a sniff around that and give them an email or call, but do it quick if you're wanting to stop there as they book up rapido. The place is basic but good enough to say you'll be half cut most of the time...and the chalet girls are (were pretty hot too), plus the Shera was pretty cheap compared to the others - Hope it helps.

Where were you riding? You need to go to spec savers .

There's tonnes of technical riding around the PDS.

The marked trails are fine but its the off piste that makes the PDS shine!

I started out by going on the package style holidays and yes they werent cheap.
We now book our own self catering apartments and sort our own transffers from Geneva. Buy flights early too.

Can be done for about £400 for a week not including beer.

Avoid going out at night stay in and party in the apartment.

Done Morzine for a number of years now.
Initially stopped at Le Nantegue (SkiMorzine) and transfers with SkiidyGonzales.com
Now stop at Le Sherpa (Jolly Good Holidays) they provide transfers and free wine with evening meal, happy days!
Flights with Easyjet.

Going out ain't that bad!
Robinsons bar the Mutzig is a must.
Mutzig gives you super hero powers 😆

Robinsons bar sells red wine for 1.50euros and its nicer than that beer but English folk like to spend whilst abroad.

I went a few yrs ago with alpine elements, good basic accommodation , and very cheap.

Fair do's...the Mutzig made me do it! 😀

Bar Robbo shuts at about seven which is exactly the amount of time it takes to consume five large Mutzigs

we stayed here for the Passportes ... great Hotel, close to the main lift 190 Euros for 2 night B&B for 3 sharing a triple room, spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was continental but really nice buffet style.. loads of fresh stuff. The owners let us use the facilities in their spa & sauna room at the end of the second day without any problems so showers etc were available.

Boomerang had the best food. Sad he sold up

Another recommendation for Hotel Igloo. They let you keep your bikes inside too.

Stayed there 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009. Basic but excellent every time.
