Obviously you need to remove the skewer to take the wheel out
If the wheel is converted to 135x10 (is that possible easily) will that work ok?

You can only run 142x12 if converted, hub will be 7mm too narrow and need a 12mm axle

Depends on the wheel. If it can be converted to 135x10, chances are it can also be converted to 142x10.
What hub is it?

ah - its an old XT cup and cone, so doubt it can actually be converted
however, the frame I was looking at takes QR, not 142x12 (older model) so its a moot point anyway
